How to remove unusable extra grey space from the left side of a writer document?

When opening a writer document, there is an abundance of unusable grey background, which takes the majority of my screen.
With the writer document on the right side, I have to scroll right to see the whole document, and even then, it will not center the document and get rid of the extra grey space

Does anyone have any idea what this might be called, or how to get rid of it, and center the document?

On the status bar at the bottom of the document: three little icons at bottom right. Click on the leftmost (a single page icon). Then pull the slider to their right to a suitable scale. Or adjust Menu=> View | Zoom.

If the status bar is no visible, ensure Menu=> View | Statusbar is checked.
