Calc - *.xla Add-Ins

Hey all,

I am an engineer who has switched over to LibreOffice to save licensing costs, but I am struggling to find an easy way to get all the *.xlas and add-ins I use in Microsoft Excel to work in LibreOffice (for example, a steam table add-in). Is there a way to convert the add-ins or get them to work in LibreOffice? Otherwise, I might not be able to fully switch-over.

Cheers

If you’re looking for an easy way to get XLA content working in LibreOffice, I’m afraid you might be out of luck. To quote the OOo forums:

An .xla file usually contains program code
that is not compatible with OOo Calc. Therefore,
you cannot load your add-in in Calc.

That being said, if you’re gung-ho about migrating to LibreOffice, there’s no particular reason why you couldn’t get equivalent functionality in LO Calc – either by using different code, or by tweaking your existing XLA code until it is compatible with LO.

How complicated are these steam tables?

qubit,

Thanks for your response - I figured that might be the case! The *.xla I currently have is an add-in that I purchased for $10-15, so recreating it would probably take some time. Steam tables are relatively complex (Check out an online calculator here http://www.steamtablesonline.com/). Anyway, may need to continue using Excel for this part of my job (unfortunately). Merry Christmas,

Hi,
I am trying to to the same thing. I use the water97_v13.xla that provides all needed functions.
I had to change the name of variable pi to pi1 in order to be able to compile it ( if not it didn’t work ).
I try actually to solve things.
I will inform you
