When I try to insert a photograph, a copied area of a pdf, a jpg image or to scan into writer all I get is a blank frame with the anchor and ‘Image 1’ in the top left corner. I also tried to open an old Word document containing photographs and got the same effect.
You would possibly like to describe your OS, and your LO version.
You can insert the images alright, but you have to turn on display of them. In Windows and Linux: Tools - Options - Writer - View - Display - Images and objects. On a Mac it’s in Preferences.
