I want a hyphen plus a space at the beginning of a line to automatically create a bulleted list. Is this possible in LibreOffice?

In Microsoft Word, typing a hyphen plus a space at the start of a line, e.g. "- ", automatically creates a bulleted list. I’m trying out switching to LibreOffice because I was tired of Word periodically crashing, causing me to lose data. I rely a lot on that bulleted list shortcut in Word, and it does not seem to be available by default in LibreOffice. Is there a way to set up a similar feature? The autocorrect options can replace text with other text, but it doesn’t seem to be able to replace text with custom formatting.

(Side note, are the “I am not a Robot” captchas showing up in Portuguese for anyone else? They are for me, and I can’t seem to find a way to change it)

I understand the convenience of the feature but it does not allow you to benefit of all the formatting possibilities in LO.

LO is heavily based on styles and styles control all aspects of layout and display. The best way to create bulleted lists is to “style” the paragraph as List x with x from 1 to 5, respectively for numbered lists Numbering x.

To directly answer your question, see what shortcut is enabled for toggling lists by hovering the mouse over the bullet/number lists buttons in the toolbar. Mine is F12 and Shift+F12. But, I don’t recommend this because it only toggles the “list” attribute for the current paragraph as a “direct formatting” which hides any formatting change you make in the base style definition.

Then you type the shortcut key at the beginning of the list and once again at the end (first paragraph following the list) to revert to normal paragraph style.

In 5.3.0.3 Libre replaces ‘- any text’ with a n-dashed list and ‘+ any text’ with a bulleted list. See Apply - LibreOffice Help for more information. As @ajlittoz pointed out, the styles in LO give more control over the formatting of your text. Remember to turn on Bulleted and numbered lists on the Options tab of the AutoCorrect Options dialog box.
