Show footnote text as popover

When hovering over a footnote number, the content of the footnote used to pop up in a small box. At some point, this stopped working for me. Has this feature been removed, or is something wrong with my settings?

This is especially annoying with endnotes: Clicking on an endnote brings me to the actual endnote text, but there seems to be no easy way to go back to the endnote number. This makes working with endnotes really cumbersome.

I’m using LibreOffice 5.3.0.3 on Ubuntu 16.04.

Please provide an example document for testing on different versions of LibreOffice.

I just had the same thing. It seems that the popover text is a a help function.

You can activate this setting under Tools > Options > LibreOffice > General > Help > Tips. I am not exactly sure about the English path to the tips, because I run LibreOffice in Dutch.

You got that spot on. Except that in (my) LibreOffice, the Tips option is hidden, you can only toggle Extended tips. But Tips seems to be enabled be default here. In Apache OpenOffice, toggling Tips also toggles the display of note text in a hint box. Maybe you should reset your user profile. See Frequently asked questions - General - The Document Foundation Wiki - important: rename the folder, don’t delete it.

You are right Floris that I had to update something. I think I was working with an older LibreOffice, because I was trying out different versions. Now I installed LO 5.3.0.3 x64 on Windows 8 and there the Help function is enabled by default. I to forgot write down which one I used when I wrote this answer.

Hi,

I’ve tried that on my libreoffice 5.4.1.2.0+ (on Debian) but it hasn’t worked…
This function used to be by default on Windows…
Do you have any other idea?
Thanks
