Why must I buy an "app" to open my Libra Office files? This issue seems to be associated with a recent WINDOWS "upgrade"

I recently and stupidly “upgraded” my WINDOWS OS. Afterwards I’m forced to buy “apps” to open and/or work within Libra Office files AND all Microsoft Office (WORD) files.

Upon the upgrade, your Windows forgot about the file associations it had before. Now it thinks that “odt” or “ods” file is unknown type, and asks you to find (buy) an application to handle them, despite you might have LibreOffice already installed. That’s annoying, but there’s nothing with it that LibreOffice can do to prevent it from happening - that’s Windows bug.

You need to re-associate LibreOffice with its files. You may use e.g. an advise from this article, or you may just reinstall LibreOffice.
