Missing tracked changes in .odt file

For professional reasons, I have am working using the .odt format in MS Word 2013. So far I have not encountered many problems. Up until… I sent the report to a colleage, he did a large number of edits, with the ‘track changes’ on. When I received the document back I could not see the tracked changes anymore, either if i opened the document in MSWord or using LO Writer. Appearently, these tracked changes are lost. It seems like MS Word is (intentionaly?) unable to save tracked changes using .odt formats. Now it’s time to waste time on ‘spot the difference’ game.

Is there a way of saving and displaying tracked changes using the .odt format under MS Word 2013? Since we have to use MS Word, should we just give up and use .docx for collaborative work and convert it back to .odt in the future if we need to?

I have noticed problems with tracked changes when a file is edited by both AOO/LO and MS Word.

There may be no simple solution and it may be a bug with either AOO/LO or MS Word or both.

See Differences between Writer and MS Word files at [Tutorial] Differences between Microsoft and AOO/LO files (View topic) • Apache OpenOffice Community Forum for why there will never be 100% compatibility between .odt and .doc or .docx files, and why you should always work in and save all your files as .odt.
