Lost typing from 1st page, doesn't show type to try to replace it?

I am not sure what I did, but I lost the first page of a document. Other pages are still there, but when I tried to retype what I lost, the typing doesn’t show up on the page I am working on??? Any help would be appreciated.

Could you better explain?

The document shows the first page as blank, but if I go to the top of the second page and backspace a few spaces. Then go to Edit, the Undo listing shows the characters I have backspaced over. So I know what I typed on that page is still there. I just can’t find anyway to restore it’s visibility. I am sure I must have clicked on something that hid it. But what? And how do I undo what I screwed up?

Before I suggest an appropriate solution, please try the following.

  • With cursor anywhere, select whole document with Cntl+A.

  • Clear any added attributes with FormatClear direct formatting or Cntl+M

You will lose all stylistic variations but this can be reverted with Cntl+Z.

If you recover your first page, I’ll give a less brutal solution.

ajlittoz, Thanks for responding. I did as you instructed, but nothing happened. The first page doesn’t show up and it still does the undo sequence mentioned before.

If I understand: your first page is blank, i.e. it occupies some space but nothing shows. You can select text from it (you see the highlighting) and you can copy/paste that data in another application (e.g. a test editor like KWrite, gedit, notepad, …). Is it right?

The page is totally blank, nothing shows. The cursor remains in the very top left corner of the page. I cannot move, drag, highlight or anything else on the page. The only way I know something is still there is by backspacing a few spaces, then clicking on Edit, thenclicking on Undo (The Undo listing shows the characters next to it, (Undo ark"). Clicking on it puts a small highlighted box on the page near the end, but nothing shows in it. I have copied the page, but it is still the same.

Very ackward. Can you upload the file somewhere? Preferentially on a site not requiring subscription

Sorry, I don’t follow what you are trying to do. I have made a backup of the file. I have made a shortened version of the file (2 Pages), I could email that file to you. File Name: LibreOfficeTextFile. I just need your email address.

Ta Da! I played with it until I figured out what the problem was. Somehow, I had loaded a blank, full page image over the top of my typed document. I happened to get the green boxes in the corners and sides when I was trying different things, so I grabbed a corner box and drug it diagonally across the page and low and behold, my type written page appeared. I appreciate your help, Thank you.

That was a hard one!
