Calc "numbering add-in"

Hi,

(LO 3.6.4.3 on Ubuntu 12.04.)

When trying to open an xls created in Excel 97 (but recently saved in Excel 2007), a pop-up window appears that reads

The numbering add-in must be loaded for optimal numbering and toolbar
behavior. Please load this add-in into your library directory.

Where is that add-in? My Google-fu seems lacking.

I just googled the whole error message you gave, and I found the following:

Looks like some kind of template/add-in is needed to open this type of file. The file may be named “TMPLTNUM.XLA”

Per these sites, the add-in was included in older versions of Excel (Excel 2000?), but is not included in new versions of Excel by default.

Unfortunately, it looks like XLA libraries are not directly compatible with LibreOffice, so you’d probably need to re-write something with equivalent functionality (i.e. the same API):
