What are the red blotches on my spreadsheet

And how do I get rid of them. I’d upload a screen grab but apparently I need 3 “points” to do that. No idea what that’s all about.

Red blotches show up on my spreadsheet. No idea what they are, how they got there and, most important, how to get RID of them. I found I can hide them with hide objects or images in preferences but I’d rather know what they are and see them gone. Very frustrating.

you can upload to a file sharing service such as mediafire and post a link in your question.

Would you mind to descibe to more detail the “blotches” you want so urgently to get rid of? On “my spreadsheet” I haven’t such a thing.

The blotches only appear in a very small portion of the worksheet affecting about five cells. When I click on one the Formatting toolbar is replaced by the Image toolbar.

@BladeRunner714: Did you open the context menu of such an object? Did you try to drag one?
I would suggest to check for the suspicion that the blotches are little graphics once pasted (inadvertently) into the sheet…

Lupp: I think you’re correct - I think they are graphics. I have no idea how they came to be, pasted inadvertently or otherwise. But how can I prevent this happening again and how can I delete them?

Were you able to select such a blotch by a simple LeftClick?

Yes. That’s when the Formatting toolbar is replaced by the Image toolbar. By the way, I should have mentioned this is on a Mac if that makes a difference.

(I dont’t know anything about the specifics of OS X.)
(I never use the ‘Image’ toolbar but …)
There is also a ‘Drawing’ toolbar which has a selector tool (big white arrow left, upward) on top by default. Using this “pointing device” with left MousButton pressed you may draw a selecting frame containing as many graphical objects as you want. By releasing the button you make all the objects inside selected as a volatile group. ‘Del’ should delete them in one go.

Please note: Objects get selected only if they are completely inside the frame. This restriction also applies to parts of the images being factually invisible. Don’t be stingy with your frame.

Lupp: BINGO! Selected the object(s) with the selection tool pointer from the drawing toolbar; clicked on Cut (Delete not available); blotches are gone. Thank you so very much!

Hi

These may be the change indicators. You may have enabled EditTrack ChangesRecord Changes

Thanks. I checked and the Record Changes is not checked

(I will try to collect reworked versions of my comments to the question to get something like an answer:)

Questioning back: Were you able to select such a blotch by a simple LeftClick?

(Acknowledged as solution.)
