How do I set a "non-one" footer starting page no. in Writer?

That says it all, your help system delivers gibberish. Please keep it simple (no acronyms). My IQ is only 139

apologies @mikekaganski, when i deleted my answer, your very good comment was accidentally deleted along with it. Please repost your comment as an Answer.

To start numbering the first (or any) page from an arbitrary number, you need to insert a page break before the very first paragraph or table on that page. Use Format-Paragraph (alternatively Table-Properties) -Text Flow-Breaks-Insert-Page, check With page style and Page number and enter desired number.

To decide which numbering style to use on pages (e.g., Roman), use Format-Page-Page-Layout Settings-Page numbers.

To add page numbers to a header/footer, place cursor to desired place in them and use Insert-Field-Page Number.

Please don’t use the field’s Offset feature or Format feature to control these aspects - using them doesn’t actually change numbering, only creates appropriately looking text, but cross-references and tables of content and the like will give wrong results in this case.

The answer given by Mike Kaganski did not work. “Breaks” in “Text Flow” was non-functional (greened out). Please provide another solution.

Hello 1470rpb, “Breaks” is only a label whose only functionality is to display a fixed text string. Below the label “Breaks” there is a checkbox called “Insert”. Check it. Below the checkbox “Insert” there is another checkbox called “With page stye:”. Also check it. Then the editfield “Page number” becomes active and you can enter your desired starting page number there.

Thanks Librebel. “Page number” does NOT become active. I can’t enter the number I want in it,

To the right of the “Insert” checkbox there is a dropdown menulist called “Type:”, click it and select the menuitem “Page”. Then to the right again there is a dropdown menulist called “Position:”, click it and select the menuitem “Before”. Then proceed as described above.

Librebel: This is very vexing and I really appreciate your help, but “position” is green (non-functional) as is the page no. entry. Could I have selected the wrong position in my document which starts with graphics?

yes, try with the caret position at the beginning of the main text area.

No luck. I’m going to ask the question again. Thanks
