Why does LibreOffice 5 Writer have so much problems adding or changing Table columns and Table?

If i have twelve columns in table rows and delete 3 then try to add back two the Writer program stops goes dark and freezes for a long time before preforming the task. I use complex Writer tables a lot and this type of thing is happening a lot, maybe 5-10 time a session and extends my work time into the hours. Version 4 of LibraOffice did NOT have this problem at all on ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

I am using ubuntu 16.04 LTS on a Dell Pavilion P6247 bundle: AMD Athlon II x4 Processor x4, Graphics:Gallium 0.4 on NVAA: 64-bit, 500Gb HD.

Have tested with 12 column, delete 3 & add 2 without a hitch (Mint 18). This was using (from LibreOffice) v5.3.2.2. You only specify v5 when there are many versions in the 5 series - 5.0.x, 5.1.x, 5.2.x, and 5.3.x versions. There is also a possible difference between the distro and LO versions.

Just added 12 column X 12 Row table, deleted 2 rows, inserted 2 rows in LO Version: 5.3.3.2 on Ubuntu 14.04.
Not a problem. worked as expected.
