Is JRE (64) not working with LO?

I have made a complete new install on my PC after a virus issue. LO installed ok, JAva runtime (64) installed ok. I use mainly the base function. LO said it needed a JRE etc. etc. In the options NO JRE was visible.
To make a long story very short: after i installed Java (86) everything worked as published. can this be true?

Yes, if LO is 32-bit. JRE bitness must match LO bitness.

If i go to the download site LO offers only a “Windows” version of LO. No indication of 32 or 64 bit as far as i can see.

There’s a “Choose your operating system:” selector with Windows x86 selected by default, and Windows x86_64 available (right above big yellow DOWNLOAD button): see http://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/.

May i then suggest to indicate clearly on the download page that x86 is the default and 64 can be found elsewhere? Also: should 64 not be the default value? That page leads to confusion and i am probably not the only one.

is the page you indicated new? It is different from the page from which i got my 86 download

To get to the page I indicated: go to http://www.libreoffice.org; click Download->Download LibreOffice (or “Download Now” on slides). I assume that’s rather straightforward. I don’t know which page you used for that.

You may suggest any improvements, but I suppose that peer-to-peer user forum (which the ask.libreoffice.org actually is) is not the best place where webmaster would look for such suggestions. I suggest you to use mailing list.

I used the dutch language version page for the initial downloads (which is quite different from the GB one. I will make the suggestion as indicated by you. Thanks
