LibreOffice Writer - Save changes current view of document

Suppose you are reviewing a document and decide to save it at some point. When you do so, the current view of the document is changed and reverts (as far as I can tell) to the point where the last change was made, which might well be far from the current view. Worse, the same is true of autosave. So, suddenly, you are reading your document and Writer finds it’s time to autosave and BAM!, there you go off to some other arbitrary point (from the point of view of what you were actually trying to do) of your document. This is terribly annoying and counterproductive.

I truly cannot understand why save operations (either filesave or autosave) should change the current view at all. I wonder if this should not be considered as a bug.

Anyway, is there a way to avoid this behavior of LO Writer?

(I don’t know if this is relevant, but I’m using LO version 5.1.6.2, on a Linux Mint system.)

Thank you for your answer. So it is indeed a bug. But, considering it was initially reported in 2011 and, even though it is considered “high major importance”, there is no one assigned to it, does it mean that I should lose all hope?

It means that until now, no developer was interested in it. It doesn’t mean anything about its future. You might be the one whose patch will fix it tomorrow.

Thanks for the compliment, but I do not think I’m capable of this much. What I meant is: is there any way around this, while the bug remains open?

Well, actually there was also https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95797 which dealt with cursor in any position, and fixed for 5.2. The one from my original answer (still open) is only about cursor in table. So upgrading may greatly diminish the trouble for you (though not resolve completely).

Well, I’m up to date as far as the Ubuntu repositories go. But this is already good news, even though I’ll have to be patient until 5.2 gets to me (my experience in trying to install LibreOffice in Mint/Ubuntu from outside of the repositories was not really good). I’d gladly upvote your answer but unfortunately haven’t got enough karma for it. I’ll wait a while longer to see if someone comes by with a temporary suggestion until the right version arrives, and if not I’ll later accept it. Thanks!

There is a LibreOffice Fresh repository that is maintained by one of main LibreOffice developers: https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

so no need to use non-repository way.

Nice! Thanks once again!
