Trailing line breaks when pasting calc data into other applications

When copying spreadsheet string data from .csv files in LibreOffice to other applications, like Google Chrome, for some reason I always get a line break at the end of the copied string. I always have to hit backspace (⌫) to get rid of it.

When examining the contents of the comma-delineated .csv file, I see no evidence of trailing line breaks at the end of the cell (before the , character).

I have the same problem in OpenOffice. I am using OS X El Capitan, not sure what the behaviour is like on other OSes.

I'm not sure if this is a "feature" or a bug, or something else. Is there a way to get rid of the trailing line breaks via application settings?
