2016-02-23 02:08:05 +0200 marked best answer A Template for the Master Document?

In a master document setup, the master document is usually the template for all chapter documents. After I change any style in the main file, when opening a chapter file I am asked to update the styles from the main file.

I only want the master document to hold the chapter files together. The styles should be loaded from a separate template.

Is it possible to create a separate template and assign it to the master document so that all chapter documents ask for updating their styles whenever the separate template is changed?

EDIT: Seriously is it not possible to change the template of a master document?

2016-02-22 16:38:56 +0200 marked best answer How do you put the Heading number on the right side?

I can't find a way to put a large chapter number on the right side of the heading. Here's a an example from the LaTeX Classic Thesis package: image description

This is what I am looking for. It should be fairly simple...

Can this be done in Writer without using a hack?

2014-06-09 13:03:11 +0200 answered a question After reopening large section of my text have a grey highlighting that I can't remove

This is a bug. I've had this problem, after adding a comment to a text span and then removing the comment.

The only solution I found was to cut (ctrl-x) the text and then use paste special (ctrl-shift-v) to insert it as unformatted text. Then you have to format it again.

2014-06-09 12:30:15 +0200 asked a question Reference footnote from an image caption?

I am trying to reference a footnote from an images caption. To reproduce:

  1. insert an image in your document
  2. add a caption to the image
  3. go to the end of the caption and try to insert a footnote/endnote
  4. nothing happens

There is no error message. But why is this not working? Is there a workaround?

2014-06-09 12:23:18 +0200 answered a question Cross-reference table numbers in a sub-document

After some experimenting, the answer turned out to be simple.

  1. mark the number range in the table caption (e.g. 4.2)
  2. set a reference on the number range
  3. insert references in other documents as usual

It works great, I don't know why this and previous questions did not get an answer with a solution.

2014-06-07 10:57:49 +0200 answered a question Opentype fail in LO PDF

There are problems with the LO PDF driver: http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/questio...

Try to print to PDF using an external PDF print driver like http://www.cutepdf.com/products/cutep... which is free and seems to use Ghostscript.

2014-06-05 10:06:15 +0200 asked a question clean up content.xml?

When you work on a document for a long time, make many changes to fonts and revert these, it seems like the content.xml file in the .odt container gets bloated with traces from these old edits. It's full of old font names, etc.

Is this a problem in the long run? Is there any way to clean up the file?

This question is probably too technical for this place... wher else can I ask it?

Same content is checked. I updated the question, the odt-document is also affected not just the pdf... It might have to do with the positioning of pictures, deactivating wrap improves the output. Is there a bug in the wrapping algorithm?

2014-05-26 09:09:33 +0200 edited question Empty Pages after Repagination

This first happened when I exported a long document with many pictures to PDF. The document is organized as a master document with sub documents. When I export to PDF Libreoffice does a "repagination" and inserts several blank and half-blank pages in the document and the exported file.

Is this a known issue? Any solution?

I have a chapter heading Annex without numbering.

I want to number tables with A.1, A.2... although the chapter heading is not named A Annex...

How can this be done? Why is this so cumbersome?

2014-05-24 10:13:25 +0200 edited answer LibreOffice pretends to save over and over again

This is a bug. Even with autosave is activated it should prompt you to give a name for the file.

But there is a way to save your document when LibreOffice attempts to autosave over and over again.

Usually the menus are difficult to access with the mouse but when the keyboard shortcuts work. Press Ctrl-Shift-S to save as a new document. Alternatively press Alt-F to open the file menu and move down to Save as...

Then save the file somewhere and continue working.

2014-05-24 09:25:37 +0200 asked a question Cross-reference table numbers in a sub-document

Using a master document setup, you can easily reference chapters between subdocuments.

But how do you reference a table number from one subdocument in another subdocument? Is this about referencing number ranges or is there some kind of workaround?

What I'm looking for

The table in the sub-document has a caption like "Table 4.2: A table containing everything"

And the reference should be "For any information see table 4.2" (only the number should be referenced, not 'table')

I know how to cross-reference in a master document setup. Referencing chapters works, but when I reference tables across subdocuments, I just get a blank field...

How is this done?
