If I drag and drop the .txt file onto Calc spreadsheet I get the option the separation options menu (fixed width, tab, comma, etc.).

If you cannot do it, upload a dummy .txt file so we can try to do it.

2017-03-20 14:01:30 +0200 asked a question Missing tracked changes in .odt file

For professional reasons, I have am working using the .odt format in MS Word 2013. So far I have not encountered many problems. Up until... I sent the report to a colleage, he did a large number of edits, with the 'track changes' on. When I received the document back I could not see the tracked changes anymore, either if i opened the document in MSWord or using LO Writer. Appearently, these tracked changes are lost. It seems like MS Word is (intentionaly?) unable to save tracked changes using .odt formats. Now it's time to waste time on 'spot the difference' game.

Is there a way of saving and displaying tracked changes using the .odt format under MS Word 2013? Since we have to use MS Word, should we just give up and use .docx for collaborative work and convert it back to .odt in the future if we need to?

2017-03-16 16:18:12 +0200 answered a question Method to number unique values

Hi!

I can think of solving it using nested IF statements. Suppose your letters are start in cell A1 and go down to cell 900000. The you just use this formula on column B to filter through the possible values:

=IF(A1="AAA",1,IF(A1="BBB",2,IF(A1="CCC",3)))

You can add more "DDD"s and "EEE"s if you want. Hope that helps!

"So many resources" could be the 250,000 euros they spent in 2015 on staff and freelancers, you can find that in their report. That is more (hopefully) than a couple of developers.

2017-03-08 16:15:13 +0200 commented answer Is the ribbon going to make an appearance?

you have a good point. But isn't the Document Foundation a guiding light for LO? If they are, they should guide towards simplicity and functionality of use. This, in my opinion, should be their main priority.

system) and adding stuff to it, like table styles (in LO 5.3) for example. There are more important things to do.

2017-03-08 16:06:58 +0200 commented answer Is the ribbon going to make an appearance?

The solution is a more pragmatic approach: focousing on improving LO itself and make it functional. Perhaps, instead of spending so many resources on attempting to create a shinny Ribbon interface, the LO team shoud focous more on deciding which of the bugs that are sitting in bugzilla for years actually need fixing. The LO team should be focousing more on 'simple and mundane tasks should be made simple' and not on increasing the complexity of the code (which is already the size of the solar

2017-03-08 16:01:01 +0200 commented answer Is the ribbon going to make an appearance?

In my opinion, some of the new options for the new GUI, there are 4 options if I remenber correctly are quite good looking and shinny. But you guys have a point, that trying to modify the interface to make it look prettier and shinier can be a waste of time, since the competitor (full of cash from the proprietary world) will make new changes and will ultimately make unfruitful all the LO efforts to look 'prettier'. It's like a loop that has no end, a cat and mouse kind of thing...

You should definately try the current version of libreOffice 5.3. That version you are using 3.4 was released back in 2011! The software has evolved considerably since, so it is possible that your problem will disappear. Try that and then come back if it doesn't work.

2017-02-27 21:41:16 +0200 answered a question Page numbers

I entirely agree with you. To insert page numbers in LO you almost need to have a PhD on it. It surely puts off many potential users...

We need to fill a feature request for that. Of course, if only 1 user fills in that request, it will sit there in Bugzilla until the end of time.
