Slide Sorter view has stopped working correctly for some .odp files in Impress 4.4.5. It shows only one big slide -- thus making Sorter view useless for rearranging or inspecting many slides. Zoom menu is faded out completely. There seems to be no relevant Tools > Option to set default zoom in Sorter view. 2016-08-12 23:54:08 +0100 asked a question Why does Impress lose track of custom Bitmap fills? I've developed a set of custom fill Colors, Gradients, and Bitmaps for technical documentation. The bitmaps are very simple, alternating light and dark. They are used to highlight sections of program code in Yellow, Green, or Blue. Earlier versions of Impress seemed to handle them routinely. Now (version 4.4) the tool randomly changes all of the bitmaps in a .odp file back to Yellow (or whatever the most common bitmap happens to be). Is there any fix for this? I've even tried saving the configuration file, but it doesn't seem to help. 2016-08-12 22:09:28 +0100 answered a question Why does Impress/Draw put an invisible bullet in Text Boxes? I found this workaround. The unwanted default Indent is due to an Automatic white (and thus invisible) bullet. To eliminate the unwanted bullet, type Alt-o-b (Bullet/Numbering dialog). Choose Customize tab. Set the bulleting choice to None. Play with indent/level settings, until the Invisible White Bullet goes away. Enhancement request: Disabling the bulleting in a Text Box should be easy, not obscure. As soon as the Bullets dialog is opened, there should be a prominent checkbox for No Bullets/Numbering. (This should supersede the hard-to-see None choice, hidden in alphabetic order in a long drop-down list of numbering/bulleting options.) 2016-08-12 21:53:49 +0100 asked a question Why does Impress/Draw put an invisible bullet in Text Boxes? Often a Text Box in Impress or Draw displays an unwanted default Indent which does not go away. You cannot get rid of it simply by adjusting Text Box margins to 0.0" (Alt-o-x), or aligning the paragraph Left (Alt-o-a). Nor does Backspace work. Is there any way to override this default behavior? 2016-07-12 14:36:00 +0100 received badge ● Famous Question (source) 2016-07-12 14:34:33 +0100 received badge ● Popular Question (source) 2016-07-11 13:57:24 +0100 received badge ● Notable Question (source) 2016-07-11 07:50:41 +0100 received badge ● Notable Question (source) 2016-07-11 01:05:39 +0100 received badge ● Enthusiast 2016-07-10 23:47:05 +0100 received badge ● Popular Question (source) 2016-07-10 22:37:59 +0100 received badge ● Popular Question (source) 2016-07-05 06:17:18 +0100 received badge ● Popular Question (source) 2016-07-04 01:15:54 +0100 commented answer Can Draw (4.4.5) dimensions be added w/o a number, in cm or "? Thank you, Pierre-Yves!! I did not realize you could do this. As long as the Dimension lines stayed selected, it would not let me edit the number -- even though an I-beam cursor appeared. Once I deselect, then the I-beam cursor works, as you stated. Neither was I aware that pressing F2 would let you edit text, with or without the Dimension selected. I've always found F2 confusing, since it's used to Insert as well as edit textboxes. Your input helps me understand its usage. 2016-07-04 00:35:40 +0100 asked a question Paste-Special works non-intuitively in pasting formatted text. The Paste-Special command (Edit > Paste-Special, or Ctrl-Shft-V) should let the user paste Formatted text [RTF] that retains the font, size, and color of the original text. (This is very useful e.g. when you need to insert frequent computer-style commands in typewriter font.) Instead, the formatted Paste loses all original information. It acts no different from the Unformatted option. The workaround in Impress is apparently to specify EditEngineFormat. But this menu option is never explained, or even mentioned, in Impress Guide 4.0. It is not even present in Writer. The same capability worked in PowerPt, so there seems to be no compelling reason that LibreOffice should not support it. 2016-07-04 00:06:40 +0100 asked a question Why does Impress leave fiducial marks (dots) around polylines? When I use the Polygon (or Multiline) tool to draw things like the red brackets in the screenshot, Impress (4.4.5) shows tiny extraneous dots (like fiducial marks) at low zoom (like 85%). They disappear at 100%. Is this a feature or a bug? image:!(C:\Documents and Settings\Micro Center\Desktop\Fiducials.png) 2016-06-29 22:55:07 +0100 asked a question Why does Impress jump (pan) when I zoom in to graphic details? I'm zoomed in at (say) 300% to fine-tune a drawing detail. My screen has been carefully arranged -- maybe I've entered into a group to edit one member. When I zoom in a little more, Impress 5.0 overrules my intentions, and by itself decides to pan a few inches over -- presumably to fit some object. This default jumping around destroys my setup, and makes it difficult to fine-tune complex engineering diagrams. Is there any way to disable it? 2016-06-29 21:17:53 +0100 asked a question Can Draw (4.4.5) dimensions be added w/o a number, in cm or "? I use Draw to create engineering diagrams for use in Impress presentations. I'm beginning to use Dimensions -- once I figured out how to access and configure them. It's nice that they work at any angle. But Is there any way to replace the default number (e.g. 2.39" or 0.57cm) with arbitrary text (e.g. Channel Length or Fin Width)? This would be extremely useful in scientific drawings. Simply overlaying the default number with a Text Box is not a good option, since the background color in these diagrams is often a gradient, not just a solid fill. Neither is simply whiting out the number, or similar workarounds that really defeat the feature's usefulness. . 2016-06-29 21:01:37 +0100 asked a question Why doesn't Draw (4.4) have a Full-Screen view (F5)? I use Impress and Draw together to create training materials. Draw is very handy for creating block diagrams and logic schematics, which can then be pasted -- either in bitmap, GDI, or original format -- onto one or more slides in any Impress presentation. It would be very handy to press Shift-F5 in Draw to view a diagram in progress, as it would look during Slide Show, but this feature is not supported. I have to go through the tedious copy-paste process every iteration, which is time-wasting when you work to meet tight deadlines. Most media tools out there support Full Screen view. Acrobat, even YouTube, has a full-screen button. IMHO, this should be a core feature for, and would improve consistency between, Impress and Draw. 2016-06-25 03:06:04 +0100 commented question How can I display names of custom colors in palette? This answer did not address my real question--though I do appreciate Pierre-Yves responding, and adding a screenshot that illustrates Version 5 behavior. What I'm really asking is how to restore the dropdown list we had in 4.4.5, showing -- at one glance -- custom colors and their user-defined names. For example (sorry no screenshot; I tried but it complained > 3 points): [xxxxxx] CMOS_pDIF [yyyyyy] CMOS_POLY [zzzzzz] CMOS_MET1 2016-06-24 22:04:12 +0100 received badge ● Famous Question (source) 2016-06-23 09:37:19 +0100 received badge ● Notable Question (source) 2016-06-23 03:35:50 +0100 received badge ● Editor (source) 2016-06-23 03:35:50 +0100 edited question How can I display names of custom colors in palette? Version 4 of Impress and Draw displayed a listing of color swatches and their names. IMHO, this was the single BEST TOOL FEATURE differentiating LibreOfc from Microsoft. It enabled the professional engineer or bioscientist to develop a set of custom colors for all their documents. Version 5 apparently dropped this great feature. Why? Is their any way to re-enable it?!? 2016-06-23 03:30:11 +0100 received badge ● Popular Question (source) 2016-06-15 00:57:26 +0100 asked a question How do I create a std bulleted paragraph in Writer (4.4) using Styles+Fmtng, w/o all the inconsistencies? When I try to create a simple bulleted paragraph as a Custom Style in Writer, I encounter inconsistencies. I'd like to know if my Style settings are perhaps being overridden by any manual settings applied to a pgf, using menu Format > Pgf, or using Format > Bullets+Numbering. I've also found that, after asking for a bullet, the dialolgs list a Numbering Style such as WW8Num4. What do all these styles mean? When I attempt to change this to the more intuitive None, every bulleted pgf in the document gets wiped out. Intuitively, I should be able to create a bulleted pgf by specifying Before: 0.15 and First: - 0.15. No tabs should be needed. Am I incorrect? Are tabs mandatory? In any case, I've tried many combinations, and I still find some paragraphs in which the first and next lines do not line up. Or pgfs in which the indenting disagrees with the ruler's tab stops. Can anyone tell me if Custom Styles is really an unsupported flow? I'd like to see it fully supported, for purposes of writing technical papers or documents that require standard pgfs and chars. IMHO, the existing Sidebar is completely inadequate and painfully slow. I'd prefer to access Styles+Fmtting from a drop-down list that I can include in my custom toolbar. I'm running LibreOffice 5 (Portable) off a USB drive, on a Dell Windows platform, to teach an engineering class. My presentations have significant animation, and are about 40 slides long. They've worked fine for several years. Suddenly (after we moved to a new building, and upgraded the computer system), I cannot control Slide Show. It randomly jumps to the next slide, and the next. It's out of control. PowerPoint does not seem to have this issue, so it can't be a trivial problem, like a stuck N key.
