@Ratslinger - Ok will do then. Thank you.

2016-11-19 21:32:12 +0200 commented answer Create macro to insert and link a OLE Spreadsheet?

@Ratslinger - Thank you for your answer. Sorry took some time to respond. Just seeing it. So when you add rows to a linked spreadsheet, on the spreadsheet Calc file, then come to Writer doc to update the rows in the DDE Link - new rows are added / extended on the Writer doc?

It does NOT happen for me on Ubuntu. I have to delete the link and recreate the link with the new set of rows. I can update the other links however with the now updated column ranges as long as the total rows do not change.

2016-11-07 18:23:10 +0200 asked a question Updaing Calc DDE links on added rows

When updating a linked Calc spreadsheet, when rows are added, updating the link in Writer does not add the rows.

The entire DDE link needs to deleted and recreated with the new added rows, thus needing to recreate the styles.

Chaging range number sin links, If no new rows are added updates the rows fine. No problem there.

But the issues are around new rows being added and updating the links accordingly.

Is there any way around this? Would it be best doe with a macro?

Thank you.

@Ratslinger and @Ulli_Wue If you were able to solve this would be great to know. I am trying a similar thing.

Also when updating a linked spreadsheet, when rows are added, updating the link in Writer does not add the rows. The entire DDE link needs to deleted and recreated with the new added rows.

Any way around this to your knowledge?

Thank you.

2016-11-07 06:33:50 +0200 asked a question Update set variable in Writer from Calc cell

Is it possible to update a variable in Writer from the value of a cell in Calc?

I know we can DDE Link a cell in a Writer, but it takes up the entire line.

I need to reference a value used in text so wondering how to best do it.

Perhaps by linking a cell by DDE, keeping that cell hidden and then update a Set Variable based on that table cell?

That would work for me as well if that can be done as I have a tables already DDE linked and I could get the vaue from one of those cells - is what I really need in my paragraphs.

Or a totally different approach?

Appreciate your help with this matter.

2016-10-31 19:34:39 +0200 asked a question BasicMacro to print Calc cells at specific widths / page width

Hello All -

I found a great macro that prints a range of cells to PDF. By Arindam at DebugPoint. Thanks Arindam. I reached out to him as well.

http://www.debugpoint.com/2015/08/exp...

However, there is no control to the width of page to be use (border widths on the page) or the width of each column in the 5 columns I am PDFing/printing.

If someone could please provide a link in how to access / affect that would be very helpful. Or perhaps provide some code pointers in how to affect that, such as what internal structures in 5 columns in Calc to address - would be very helpful.

I can do the above code link by selecting / printing a range and do not really need the macro for that but need to enhance the macro so as to be able to set page borders and width of each of the 5 columns.

Also I can DDE link it to Writer doc and adjust things there to print - which I have done also.

But would like to see if I could code it to print directly from the Calc via BasicMacro.

Thank you for your help / pointers.

2016-10-31 19:11:40 +0200 commented question To add Outline Levels 1/2 to Indexes at Levels 1/2

Hi Mark - What I want is not with TOC but with Indexes. I have 4 Indexes (Emails/Documents/Invoices/Comparisons). I would like Levels 1/2 of TOC to show up in ALL 4 Indexes. And I will always add the 4 Index entries at Level 3. Hope that helps.

2016-10-31 06:13:18 +0200 commented question To add Outline Levels 1/2 to Indexes at Levels 1/2

By 'to just use the lower level of heading and set the format to the same as outline format?' - do you mean lower 'evel as to set the Index entry to the lower level ie 3?

Also not sure how to (or what you mean by) set the format to the 'Outline format'. Do you mean for the Indexes? Is that even possible as I had not seen. And if so will it not show all levels of Outline not just 1 and 2 which is all i want.

2016-10-30 19:36:20 +0200 commented question To add Outline Levels 1/2 to Indexes at Levels 1/2

Thanks Mark. Going through it now. Is there a way to request this as a feature in LO - ie adding the Outlines to Indexes with a choice of Levels and to which Indexes.

2016-10-28 05:59:12 +0200 asked a question To add Outline Levels 1/2 to Indexes at Levels 1/2

Hello All -

I am using LibreOffice 5.2 on Ubuntu and trying to see how to best solve this issue.

I would like add Outline Levels 1/2 to 4 Index entries I have so the items in the 4 indexes, when inserted at Level 3, show up under the Outline Levels 1/2 added at levels 1/2 in those Indexes.

I have been able to do this manually to get the desired effect.

However, I wanted to see whether one or both of the following are true:

  1. If this could be done as part of feature already in LO 5.2
  2. Or whether this needed to be done programmatically through a macro?

If programmatically through a macro then I assume the following rough pseudocode would be necessary:

  1. Check the 4 indexes and if any item in those indexes appear at Levels 1/2 then move them to Level 3 if they are not in Outline Levels 1/2.
  2. For each Outline Level 1/2 add to the 4 Indexes at Levels 1/2.

I am a programmer and was hoping to write it in Basic using the XDocumentIndexes. I am assuming there is a Outline Index or some interface to access the Outlines also.

I assume Basic would be best language as it is the default language? I am a good Python programmer.

However, I assume setup is already there for Basic in LO.

Would appreciate hearing from you on how to best accomplish this. If LO already has this feature then how do I use it? And if programming, then where would be a good place to start in accessing the Indexes please.

Thank you for your help and suggestions.

2016-05-17 06:11:53 +0200 asked a question Invalid page count in multiple page numbering with template and page styles

Using LibreOffice 5.1 on Ubuntu 16.04.

I was looking through this forum and online searches with page numbering with multiple page styles. However, I have not been able to find something that allows me to do a Template to start from.

Thus I started a Template to start from as I need to create 3 documents in the same style. I have achieved several things in this template but there are still some issues I was hoping someone could please help me resolve.

The issue is primarily in showing the correct Page Count within a set of pages defined by a Page Style.

In the Template I was able to have five (5) different Page Styles. And on each page style I am able to start new numbering.

However the issues are:

1) Total Page Count in Template shows 9 although I have a total of 5 pages (ie Page Styles as well).

2.a) In Template (in footer for each Page Style) I tried to: Insert > Fields > More Fields > Variable: Set Page Variable(ON), Show Page Variable.

2.b) I don't know what exactly this does but when I add more pages within a Page Style it shows them as 1/1, 2/2 rather than 1/2, 2/2 etc.

3) In Template (in footer for each Page Style) I also tried to: Insert > Fields > More Fields > Formula. However this does not work either. I set Formula by seeing a post that said set Formula to be Page Count - the Page Number there this Page Style starts. But my Page Count is wrong to begin with.

What I would like to happen

Ideally I would like to show 4 numbers, of which # 1 is achieved and # 3 is most important.

  1. Actual Page Number in light of set of pages defined by a Page Style.

  2. Actual Page Number in light of entire document even though I set Page Number for a Page Style to Restart Numbering.

  3. Page Count within a set of pages defined by a Page Style.

  4. Total Page Count of entire document. I thought this would be the easiest. Not sure why it is showing 9 when I have 5 currently.

Thank you much for your help and suggestions.

2016-04-20 15:35:31 +0200 commented answer Footer disappears in document on update of template in LO-5

Thanks here also. So the cross-ref work for me. They are named differently and they are fine.

2016-04-20 15:34:23 +0200 commented question Footer disappears in document on update of template in LO-5

Thanks again for your help. Yes it seems they get replaced. I tried different approaches to no avail. Perhaps there is a place I can post / request this for LO to address?

I have solved this in interim by keeping a copy of footer in last line of document which I paste back in footer after import in master.

2016-04-16 18:36:41 +0200 commented answer Footer disappears in document on update of template in LO-5

Also, in footer in each document, I have cross-references to topics in the document I created by Set Reference. If I copy and paste footer in Master, after importing documents, will the cross references work? I will try it out. Thank you again.

2016-04-16 18:34:01 +0200 commented answer Footer disappears in document on update of template in LO-5

Thanks for your comment. So it seems you are saying I have to create a new footer in Master to have what I need? Which would be the combined footers of all documents, line by line? I would be ok with that if it does not delete footer when I update the child documents in Master. Would that work?

2016-04-16 18:07:57 +0200 commented question Footer disappears in document on update of template in LO-5

Also, please note - the only thing in terms of content that is in template - is the 2nd line of footer. That has the page number / count and imposes its own style - Footer.Style.PageNumber. Rest of document is empty. My problem is when I make modifications to style in template, even not related to footer, I need to update style in documents - and I lose footer line 1.

2016-04-16 18:00:02 +0200 commented question Footer disappears in document on update of template in LO-5

ALL styles are in template. Footer.Style.DocA and Footer.Style.DocB are in template and children of Footer.Style. All that ..DocA or and ..DocB changes is the color. Footer.Style defines font and border. Hope that helps. Thank you.

2016-04-16 07:46:13 +0200 asked a question To combine together multiple docs in master doc and sequence their footers in LO-5.0

Hello -

On Ubuntu 15.10 / LibreOffice 5.0.5.2.

Been using LibreOffice for a while but a little new to managing Styles and Templates.

I searched through the forum but did not find answer to what I am looking for.

A description of my particular situation is as below.

I created a template to be used in different documents with similar content. Thus the template contains quite a few styles. I created the styles hierarchically such as Footer.Style and then Footer.Style.DocA and Footer.Style.DocB such that DocA and DocB can apply the style referred to by its respective name.

All that the child style changes, eg. by DocA or DocB is the color. Font, borders etc. are stored in the parent style Footer.Style.

Thus main body of template is blank. Has no information and the template is mainly used as a storage for styles.

Footer of the template has 2 lines: 2nd line has page number/count and applies the style Footer.Style.PageNumber. Ist line of footer in template is blank. And applies the style Footer.Style.

In the document using the template, whether DocA or DocB, on this 1st line, I apply the style Footer.Style.DocA or Footer.Style.DocB, which only changes the color, from parent Footer.Style.

I want to combine these documents DocA and DocB in a Master Document. I create a Master Document Template to work from. When the documents are combined the footers from both documents completely disappears. No footer.

I would like to have the footer be sequenced by the 1st line in DocA and then then 2nd line from DocB and so on. The last line of the footer would be the page number / count with the the style Footer.Style.PageNumber, which is the 2nd line in footer in all the documents.

I believe that this can be done with a good Master Document design, but I am also trying to see if this can be a programmatic solution such as with the new release of PyUNO.

I can do a headless LO to pdf merge and kind of get what I need but each footer is only localized to the document being merged and so is the page number / count.

I wonder if LO-5.1 will be addressing this issue?

Thank you much for your help in resolving these matters.

2016-04-15 07:56:21 +0200 asked a question Footer disappears in document on update of template in LO-5

For the footer in the document it is not working (loses the line) when I Update Styles after changing the template. When I update style, the footer line that has a blank line in template (the 1st line) disappears in document, and I am left with a blank line that has style Footer.Style.

Thus, to recap, the 1st line in document DocA or even DocB which should have the style Footer.Style.DocA or Footer.Style.DocB,is no more, when I Update Styles. Content is gone also. Left with blank line as in template. The 2nd line is fine and the page number/count displays.

Also, another thing I can't figure out - whenever I open either the document or the template, it wants to Update Styles, even if I have not changed the template. It also asks this question for the template also when I open the template. I always agree to this and click on Update Styles.

My final related question. I want to combine these documents DocA and DocB in a Master Document. I create a Master Document Template to work from. But again there when the documents are combined the footers from both documents completely disappears. No footer.

My Master Document has a footer that is empty, nothing in it. So not sure if that is the problem and what I can do about it.

Thank you much for your help in resolving these matters.
