I don't understand why a page style would specify a font, as that's a property of a paragraph style. Indeed, in LO 6.1.3

2017-03-10 01:45:19 +0200 asked a question In writer, I'm suddenly getting one less line per page

After making lots of edits to my book today, I noticed there'd been a page creep. I eventually tracked it down to the number of lines per page dropping by 1, because it seems that LO is now reserving an extra blank line at the bottom of the page.

A screenshot that shows a page from an earlier version of the book on the left (before I accidentally changed some setting), and a page from the current version of my book on the right, with the extra blank line area highlighted, is on my web page at image:Old version on left, current version on right

I suppose my question is, "What controls the spacing in this bottom area, near the grey registration marks?" I must have modified the page style, early in the day, accidentally. I clicked the Reset button on the page style, and didn't noticed any change (until 10 hours later!).

I compared every aspect of the Page style I could in that page style, between the earlier book and the new one, but all settings seemed identical. I even tried setting Register-true (didn't help), and activating Asian languages so I could use the Text Grid and change the number of lines: but that seems to be altering the font and leading, while still leaving the new blank line reserved at the bottom of the page.

There's also the occasional rare page that doesn't have the extra blank line at the bottom: the first one occurs on p185. It is the same page style ("Convert8"), and examining every tab of the page format, I can see no difference for this page. But it has the number of lines per page that I want. p185, p188-190, and p513 are also correct.

Please help!

2017-03-08 16:07:44 +0200 answered a question How do i write as much as it's possible in as few pages as it s possible?

All the tips above are good. Experiment with the line spacing and squeeze the lines together, reduce margins and gaps at the top and bottom of the pages (columns) to the point that you can still read it. But the most useful tip may be to select a font that's well-designed and compact. Times New Roman is okay, but other fonts with larger x-heights may be more legible at smaller point size: like Georgia.

2017-03-08 16:00:54 +0200 answered a question How do I get an EPS file in Writer to not be scaled?

It looks to me like you can do it by right clicking on the image and selecting the Properties dialogue; in there, go to the Crop tab, and set the scale (width and height) to 100%. Maybe also select "Keep image size" for Crop.

Make sure the Left, Right, Top, and Bottom are all set to 0.0 on the Crop tab, of course, too!

2017-03-08 15:51:13 +0200 answered a question What LibreOffice version should I download?

I've been using 5.2.5.1 for the last month, upgraded from 5.1.3 because of some bugs that are fixed in the newer one. I also use LO to exchange Word .docx files with my editor, and the compatibility seems pretty good. Though certainly not perfect. You'll find if you save a LO file as .docx, LO will generate thousands of paragraph style, all with different names, that are mostly the same style.

2017-03-08 15:45:56 +0200 answered a question Full justification issue

Your justification options for paragraphs of text are: "Align left", "Align right", "Center Horizontally", and "Justified", which sounds like what you want: which aligns the left to the left, and the right end of each line to the right, for each line except the last line in the paragraph.

It's possible you're not seeing the icon to provide full (flush) justification because the document window is too narrow. You could widen the window, or look for one of the small ">>" icons that indicate a drop-down menu of lots of commands that won't fit in the area at the top, provided for the various controls. You could also use Tools->Customise... to adjust the UI so the Justified icon appears.

Or, select Justified on the Alignment tab of the Paragraph Style dialogue.

2017-03-08 15:34:14 +0200 answered a question How do I enable scrollbar arrows in LO under Linux

This may not be a very helpful answer, but if you logged in and selected some desktop that wasn't running GTK3, you'd be fine. I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 Compiz I think (using the options that avoids the Unity UI), and it's working fine.
