2013-05-18 09:58:48 +0200 commented answer Search all open documents?

Thank you mahfiaz, the Master Document is what I need. Well, it's the best solution.

2013-05-18 08:32:21 +0200 asked a question Search all open documents?

I have fifteen documents, each reviewing one in a series of lectures. My end of year task is to write an analysis and I have the fifteen documents open for reference - as well as the new document I am creating.

I need to be able to search for themes such as 'security' quickly see what was said in each document about it, as well as search for which document a quotation I know of exists in.

Is there a way to do this or must I search each document individually?

2013-04-19 11:21:31 +0200 commented answer How can I create a nice invoice, drawing totals from separate spreadsheets?

Thank you, that's _exactly_ what I was looking for! God, I've spent so much time, thanks very much.

2013-04-17 20:20:53 +0200 asked a question How can I create a nice invoice, drawing totals from separate spreadsheets?

I have several spreadsheets and want to create a nice looking invoice template in Writer (or Calc) that can take it's values from individual cells in other spreadsheets.

I've read this: http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=3294 and it seems the only way to directly reference a cell is with the likes of this: ='file:///path/name.xls'#$SheetX.$A$1

Is there an easier/GUI way to reference the cell of a local .ods file and how can I feed that to a Writer file?

I've tried: Table -> Formula, and entering: 'file:///Users/jarlathreidy/Ja.xlsx'#$Sheet1.$E$3 But it just says, Expression is faulty

2013-04-03 01:41:47 +0200 asked a question Which fonts are most portable?

I want to change the default font from Times New Roman for a user. However, I'm aware that some fonts are not available on other systems. What would be best practise here and how do document writers plan for the target systems their documents will be written on?

2012-12-22 14:09:01 +0200 answered a question Internal error cache

I've just had the same issue and it caused problems with general updates and software installation too. Here is how I (finally) worked it out, in my case it was libreoffice3.6 on Ubuntu:

1) In a terminal, type:

sudo dpkg -i libreoffice3.6-dict-en

This allowed updates to work again, but installations didn't. I found a new error as a result of above and had to type:

2)

sudo dpkg -r libreoffice3.6*

This process reported some parts that failed to remove properly so I ran it repeatedly (two times in fact) until it completed without error.

From this point on my system was working normally again and installations / updates etc work well again.
