2015-10-21 04:16:15 +0200 marked best answer stay in directory when you open multiple files

When I 'open a file' or insert a picture' or something, it always opens up nautilus in my home directory, lets me navigate to the file, and open it. If I want to insert three pictures all in the same directory, I have to navigate to the directory, open the first one, navigate to the directory, open the second one, navigate to the directory, open the third one.

This is really annoying.

Is there an option somewhere I can click, so when I navigate to the directory, open the first file and select 'insert picture' again it will open nautilus in the directory that I left it in? (Hope that makes sense).

I'm not sure if this is the right place to submit feature requests, but if there isn't such a feature, can it be added? Also, does anybody else think this should be default behaviour?

2014-05-13 23:25:50 +0200 commented question How can I export a pdf which shows changes?

Oops. You're right. I've found my problem (master documents don't show changes in their subdocuments), and I definitely asked a wrong question.

2014-05-13 14:13:57 +0200 asked a question How can I export a pdf which shows changes?

Preamble: I need to send somebody a copy of a large document (for them to view), with changes shown. I've used edit -> changes -> record, and the changes show up fine in libreoffice, but I can't send it in odt format (the document won't open in microsoft office).

Problem: Converting to microsoft word format (.docx) doesn't work, (.doc) works fine except most of the images won't show, so what I'd really like to do is convert to pdf. When I convert to pdf, it doesn't show the changes.

Reading: All I can find is this previous question: http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/questio...

Is python uno the only way of doing it? Is it the best way?

I've never heard of python uno, and can't find any obviously good tutorials online. If python uno is the best way to go, does anybody know how to do it/ where I should look for a solution/ where I should look for information so I can write a solution?

2014-05-11 16:27:23 +0200 asked a question hidden page in master document - red arrow before

Hello,

I have a master document. Seemingly randomly, in the middle of one of my subdocuments, there is a hidden page. The page shows up fine when the subdocument is viewed on its own, but as part of the master document it's simply not there. The page numbers don't jump. On the page above the missing one there is a small red arrow in the bottom right hand corner.

Any idea how to get this page to show?

2014-05-05 21:14:06 +0200 asked a question restarting figure numbers in master documents

I've got a master document. Every chapter is a sub-document (and there are some other small subdocuments as well). Every chapter except the first starts with the style "Heading 2". I want the figure numbers (and table/'text' numbers for that matter) to restart for every new sub-document.

If I go to a subdocument (ch 6), set outline numbering level 1 to "Heading 2", save, and then update the master document... It works (I've set the figures to numbering by chapter level1, for the time being, in the master document, outline numbering starts with heading 2). The figure numbers restart at the beginning of chapter six.

If I do the same thing with the next chapter (ch7), that chapters figure numbering is correct, but the numbering from the previous chapter (ch6) has gone wrong again. When I updated chapter 7 it was as if I'd told chapter 6 to not restart the figure numbers.

Messing around shows that the figure numbering restarts for the last chapter I've updated and that chapter only.

Of course I want figure numbering restarted at the beginning of chapter 6 and chapter 7 and all of the other chapters. I can't see any way of doing this except doing all the figure numbers manually (I can't even hack the document as it's a master and doesn't store all the data). And I don't want manual figure numbers - that's a nightmare.

So can anybody help me fix the problem?

2013-09-09 16:00:22 +0200 commented answer Can you copy the bibliography format between documents?

I've used libreoffice's bibliography database, but not zotero (the plugin doesn't work on my computer, so I decided to input the citations manually). And the separate documents each keep their own reference list.

2013-09-06 22:24:28 +0200 asked a question Can you copy the bibliography format between documents?

I've got a number of documents, all of which have a bibliography, and all of the bibliographies have to be formatted in the same way (e.g. journal entries go: number: authors. Title. Paper, volume, pages). Is there a way of copying this formatting between multiple documents, or do I have to format each bibliography manually?

2013-04-17 15:34:28 +0200 commented answer insert landscape page after paragraph x

Ah! I've worked out what you meant by linked page style, but it's still not quite doing what I wanted. Now I can e.g. make page 3 landscape and then page 4 goes back to portrait, but if I go back to the first page, and press return loads of times, the landscape page stays on page 3 rather than following the paragraph that it was made from - when that paragraph moves to page 5 I would like the landscape page to be on page 6.

2013-04-16 16:52:01 +0200 commented answer insert landscape page after paragraph x

Neither. I'll have another go at explaining it. I want the content to flow over all portrait pages, but I want a landscape page after a paragraph (the lanscape page contains a picture, and the paragraph references it)

2013-04-12 17:46:02 +0200 asked a question insert landscape page after paragraph x

I'd like to insert a landscape page (with a figure on) the page after a certain paragraph (so if page 2 has this paragraph on, I'd like page 3 to be landscape). I can do that with page breaks, but if I add any text to the beginning of my document I have to reposition the page break every time.

Is is possible to get the text to sort of jump past the extra page?

A less good alternative would be to increase the page number (in the footer) by 2 insead of one, only on the page that this paragraph is on. And then have the extra page (with correct number) at the bottom. So then page 2 has the paragraph on page 3 is the next portrait page and labelled '4', the last page is landscape and labelled '3'.

Hope that makes sense...

2013-03-27 23:48:11 +0200 commented question Calc Formula

What's in C7 on the 5th April 2013?

2013-03-22 23:51:32 +0200 edited question row number in calc function

I'm trying to make a function in calc that prints the row number of a cell. I tried creating the sequence:

=IF(U4="",4,"")

=IF(U4="",5,"")

=IF(U4="",6,"")

=IF(U4="",7,"")

and then dragging the formula downwards, but it just cycles 4 5 6 7 4 5 6 7.
