This sounds very similar to glossary / table of terms, for which earlier question - "How can I insert a two-column glossary of terms / abbreviations?" - has a quite complete reply.

Basically you can use the indexing facility to do this. Keep in mind that you can have User-Defined Indexes.

Similar questions in other forum like "Creating a glossary" and "Add definitions to a lexical index" seems to point to similar solution.

2013-10-11 18:23:43 +0100 answered a question Absolute addressing

Absolute addressing does not mean it will not change with you move the destination around, rather that it will not change when you copy the reference (the cell that have that absolute reference) to other location.

If you really want a reference that never move, you should use indirect references.

2013-10-11 18:16:48 +0100 answered a question generate an odt file from another program

Do you have to create the document with manually create XML, or by scripting OpenOffice.org / LibreOffice, or something in the middle? There are some libraries that can be used to generate Open Document Format. For example these 2 are for Perl:

Open Options dialog box, open Load/Save, then choose General, adjust "Save AutoRecovery information" to whatever you want. Maybe you have "Automatically save the document too" checked? If yes try uncheck this first.

2013-10-11 17:44:28 +0100 answered a question Laptops and Tablets: help needed

Most laptops can run LibreOffice. The exceptions these days will be Chromebook and Android netbooks.

Some tablets are basically the same as laptops, i.e. they have x86 architecture (Intel or AMD non-ARM CPU) and can run normal MS Windows and/or Linux, this should be able to run LibreOffice as well.

LibreOffice for Android is still in development, as per wiki page "LibreOffice on Android" and the question "Is LibreOffice 4 available for Android?". If you can help in any way I am pretty sure they will appreciate.

2013-10-11 17:10:29 +0100 asked a question Template of a set of multiple documents?

I have a Writer document that in more than one place have content linked from a Calc document. Now I need to make these 2 documents into template, where every month I can create new version of the documents set, in each version the Writer document will be linked to the that version of the Calc document, not the original template.

Any idea how I can achieve that?

Note: originally I am thinking to embed the Calc document inside the Writer document, but as expressed in my other question Linked data from an embedded document apparently this cannot be done.

2013-09-19 22:31:34 +0100 asked a question Linked data from an embedded document

I have a Writer document with embedded (OLE) Calc document in it. Is it possible to have a portion of that Calc document pasted as link (DDE link) in other part of the Writer document?

What I did is selected that portion of that calc document, moved the cursor to the other part of the Writer document, did paste special, then chose "DDE link". What I found is if the embedded Calc document just recently made or copied, then this will works fine and the link works (the table content changes when I change it in the Calc embedded document). However, once I close the document and reopen, the link break and I when I tried to do another "DDE link" paste, nothing actually pasted.

When I checked Edit -> Links..., it shows Source file as "Untitled1", Type "soffice", and Status usually "Not available", although I saw them become "Automatic" sometime; doesn't change the fact that the link break, though.

Is this a bug?

Thank you.
