2013-11-07 18:48:22 +0200 answered a question Importing and creating relationships in base

Hi there, I had the same problem. I found my answer here:

https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5687

It's not that the relations can't be done, it's that something goes wrong with the import process, so copying and pasting the tables over helps.

Thanks MQ, but I'm not sure it answered my question since I could not get to the relationship window at all before because of the error. It wasn't that I didn't know it was possible, it was that something was wrong with the way Base imported the Calc file to create the tables. This link explains exactly what was happening:

It also looks like I can run SQL queries now, so I am happy! But I will remember your answer if I need to set up forms. Thanks again.

Hi group,

Just wondering if this is doable in Base…I know it's doable in Access.

I am using the Mac version by the way.

I have a Calc file with three tabs.

I import it into Base by connecting to my Calc file in the wizard. All three tables appear in Base.

When I try to run a join, either via SQL or the wizard, I get an error saying that it can't be done because more than one table is selected (that's the point :-D).

When I try to create a relationship, I get an error that says the database does not support relations.

I have to use a Mac because it's what everyone here uses…I would be happier in Access, but also happy if I could do it in Base too :-) TIA!

I am having the same issue as well. This advice doesn't solve the problem for me. I recreated my XLSX as a ODS file, imported it into Base and got all the tables. But when I try to run a join or add a relationship, I am not able to because of the same error above.
