Are developers actually coming to this site?

I just don’t want this to be a simple Q&A for LO users; some answers to these questions, and even some questions themselves, demand attention of the people actually coding the office suite. So, I’d just like to ask this simple question: are developers looking at the posts in this site?

If you feel that they don’t need to, or that our feedback does not deserve consideration, feel free to justify your answer.

Some of the devs visit the site, some also provide answeres themselves. But still: If you find a bug, you need to file it in bugzilla, otherwise it will probably be forgotten. Same goes for feature requests. And fundamental design decisions (where the ask.libreoffice.org platform is not the correct place to discuss them anyway) need to go to the appropriate mailing-lists (but don’t expect anything to change if you don’t put some effort in it yourself).

Keep it what it is: A question & answers platform. When you don’t expect that someone can give a “do this and that, then you have what you want” style answer, then ask.libreoffice.org very likely is the wrong place for your question.

It is not a place for “I want LibreOffice to go in this or that direction” platform or “I have a bug, fix it!” style discussions.

Thanks for the comprehensive answer. I have to admit, I wrote this question during a time when I was a little frustrated at a few things. Also, I feel more than a little intimidated by the idea of subscribing to mailing lists.

How should we handle feature requests or bug reports in questions? Should we file and link a bug, then close, or?? (most of us don’t have the power to close q’s)

I would not file bugs for other people… Just add an answer (or comment) stating that ask-libo is the wrong place for that kind of stuff and point to https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug

@cloph Thanks for the clarification. What about closing (if we have the power) ? It seems like feature requests or bug reports should just be active/open in one place at a time, probably on the bug tracker.

You might check A. against B.

A. → Friendly experts

B. → People

Hold on; I’ll run some statistical tests on Calc just to make sure. =P

Yes. Next question?
