Is there somewhere with LO writer (format image perhaps?) that will allow me to change a colour image into B&W?
I know I could alter my printer properties, but if I could find some way to change the image & save it, then I wouldn’t need to access the printer properties every time I print the document.
Hi Regina thanks for your very clear response and attached images. Once I found the correct tool, it was a piece of cake to edit the image.
In the image toolbar you will find a drop-down list “Graphics mode” or in the side bar “Color mode:”. There you can set the image to “Black/White” or to “Grayscale”. This transformation does not change the image itself but only the rendering. Therefore you can use it for linked images too.
In Draw/Impress there exist in addition some image tools, which will alter the image itself, and therefore are disabled for linked images. You have to customize a (new) toolbar to get access to them. When you use “Add Commands” you will find them in the category “Modify”. There exist “8 Bit Grayscales” for example.

I struggle to find where toolbars are often hidden/located. When I paste an image, this “toolbar” appears (attached) the bottom row, towards the right - is this the one you mean?
If so, where is “graphics mode”? I’ve hovered all along there and there’s nothing I can see showing that name, it has things like colour, transparency, rotate.
Ah, I can’t attach the image. It says I need 3 points to do that - where I buy 3 points from I don’t know, so I’m stuck now.
I have added a screen shot. The image has to be selected, so that it has green handles. I don’t know, where the toolbar is shown in your LibreOffice version, but the side bar should look as in the screen shot. If the toolbar is not shown at all, then you can enable it in menu View > Toolbars.

File▸Printer Settings... allows you to define properties only once for the document.
Just check Tools▸Options▸Load/Save▸General▸Load as explained here.
