Sometimes you have to back off JAVA a full point to get the compatible libraries, like using JAVA 6.X if JAVA 7.X is too new, as well as installing the 586 32 bit x86 package (you can also install the 64 bit package x64 for other uses if you have a 64 bit OS).

When I got to Tools->Options->LibreOffice, there is no Online Updates choice. Where are they hiding?

Can we make LibreOffice handle windows write .wri files? I think they are just RTF. All I get is control characters, not formatting.

2013-02-06 07:24:46 +0200 la mejor respuesta fue marcada Writer is not formatting and bordering docx tables the same

Word 2003 shows a word table, but libre office writer shows several differences:

  1. Even with the show all, I see what looks like floating paragraphs until I see a roll over popup comment or turn on Table Boundaries. This is a print view and the borders of table cells do print, so they should not disappear by default.
  2. The table and underlying text is one page on word 2003 and openOffice text, but 1.6 pages on libreOffice.
  3. The cellfill/font-color/reverse in the top cell is missing in libreOffice and openOffice text.

BTW, this 'ask' web app has numbering that does not know how to indent or number. When you play with the numbered list in edit, it generates more empty lines, lines with the same numbers, blank lines between and inside paragraphs, and folds paragraphs to a column narrower than the frame. When I save the edit, I get a mix of short and wide lines!

Spreadsheets can be read from xlsb, but not rewritten. If we know how to read one, we should know how to write one.

2012-08-13 18:28:23 +0200 respondió a una pregunta write .wri

The best/only real .wri tool I have found, a bit klunky but very effective, is Crystal Office Systems tool Maple: http://crystaloffice.com/maple/

You can use it for 30 days free.

Once installed, open it up and crush the left pane away. Do File->Import, change the file type to windows write .wri, browse up the next file to convert, open it up, looks great, just like back in the late nineties, so now File->export, browse up the original again as Windows Write .wri. highlight(select) it, but then change the file type to Word 2007 docx, save, Edit->Select All (^A), Edit->Clear(Delete), and repeat as necessary.

Maybe the guys at Crystal Office Systems could donate some wri conversion code to Libre/Open Office?

Apparently, the wpd suffix is critical.

It should have a better nose for magic.

It opens them as ascii junk. Is there a trick to triggering the conversion, specific suffix or ?

I have a smattering of personal correspondence. It was the poor man's Word back when. It'd be nice to see the original formatting restored. My oldest system is vista. I just trashed my win95 disks!
