Save a presentation with videos so that MS-PP can open it properly

Hi all!
I’m working in Impress on a presentation that contains a couple of videos.
I will present it using the computer of the host organization, that only has MS-PP installed.
Is there a tested route to save a ppt/pptx file that MS-PP can open properly, including videos?

Thanks

While it isn’t a 100 percent guarantee that your presentation will run O.K. on a computer with Microsoft Office, the free Powerpoint Viewer available from Microsoft gives you a way to test how your Impress presentation saved to ppt or pptx will work in practice.

Hi @quatar,

That’s a really good question! (sorry, out of points today – I’ll try to give you some karma tomorrow)

What version of Powerpoint are you targeting? Here’s a page about media formats for Powerpoint 2007, for which you could use one of the following formats:

  • avi
  • mpeg
  • wmv

In what format (container/codec) are your videos? You might not need to convert them if they’re already encoded using a codec that is available on the system you’re going to use for playback.

I’d suggest that you ask someone (a technical contact?) at the host organization to give you the specs of the system. Is there any way that you or someone else could do a test run of your presentation file through the host’s computer?

I recently installed an MSO viewer from the MS homepage to see how files with MSO extension open in MSO.

I would try to save the Impress files in pps or ppsx format and use the MSo viewer to test how they run.
