How to join two tables in Writer?

I have two tables of information on the same topic and I want all the information on one table. How may I ‘stitch’ them together?

The Writer 4.2 manual says:

To merge two tables:

  1. Delete the blank paragraph between the tables. You must use the Delete key (not the Backspace key) to do this.
  2. Select any cell in one of the tables.
  3. Right-click and choose Merge Tables in the pop-up menu. You can also use Table >
    Merge Table
    from the Menu bar.

Tip To see clearly where the paragraphs are and to delete them easily, choose View Nonprinting Characters (Ctrl+F10) or click the ¶ button in the Standard toolbar.

But, the right-clicking advice in step 3 does not work in my Writer 5.4. So use the drop-down “Table” menu to activate “Merge Tables”

There might be minor complications affecting further editing if the tables have a different number of columns but I have not found these hard to deal with.

(Edited for better readability by @Lupp and @JimK)

Thank you Lupp. The original showed my incompetence in managing the Ask LibreOffice system.

@Platterbaff: Only after you also do a tiny edit to the answe, it will be correctly shown as your answer again. There are issues with the askbot.

Thank you. The first method does not work for me but the secind was easy once I cleared out between the tables.

PS. The table seems to have merged but it will not sort proprely. It has by the forst column but will not bu\y the first and second together, or the second, or the second over a small number of rows (less than a page). Comments.

I did not know that merged tables have this problem. May I suggest that you report it as a bug?

I am trying to work out how to report the discrepancy between what the manual and what actually happens. The manuals are generally very good, We should all be grateful for the work authors put into them - task is hard and often undervalued. But I also know how even small differences between what the book says will hand what actually happens can confuse non-technical users and waste a lot of time

Quoting @Keitho: “…but it will not sort proprely.”
In what way did you find this: Did the tool refuse to work?
Did it return unexpected results? Example?
Did you try to sort numbers?
Did there occur merging/splitting of columns/rows/cells during the historys of the merged tables
WYSINWYG: What you see is never what you get. And it needn’t be closely related to the technical reality of the document.

Perfect answer. Even in LibreOffice 6.0.5.2 is working
