How do I print (and save the print formatting) some sheets landscape and other sheets portrait within the same spreadsheet/document? Excel (2002) allows me to specify different orientation/scale for each sheet; LibreOffice seemingly applies the same formatting to all sheets.

Wondering if it has something to do with rights (I've had some Excel Files open in read only mode). Can you enter data at all? If not, are you able to go into edit mode?

2016-09-24 23:54:45 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda Can I merge many cells at once

Possible workaround, you could use the CONCATENATE function =CONCATENATE(A1," ",B1) to report the combined names in Column C (or any other column), and then copy the formula down all 150 rows. You can then copy the results to another sheet or even overwrite back to Column A (use "Paste Special" or "Paste Only" to copy only the results but not the formula).

2016-05-18 14:44:12 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda Calc will not show SUM values in cell, only formulas.

Sounds like the cell containing the formula is formatted as text. Changing it to number after the formula is entered seemingly will not work as the data (the formula) is already text. Try changing the format to number and re-entering the formula

General hint to anyone thinking of moving to LibreOffice. LO is available as a portable app: http://portableapps.com/apps/office/l... IF the portable app runs under Win10 (no personal experience with Win10) this will give you an opportunity to try it out.

2016-02-15 14:23:21 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda how do I spread sheet in alphabetical order?

Figure 55 refers to illustration (Pg 76) of the PDF cop of the L.O. 4.1 CALC GUIDE, available at https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/...

To sort cells in a spreadsheet using the Sort dialog (Figure 55): 1) Select the cells to be sorted. 2) Go to Data > Sort on the menu bar to open the Sort dialog. Make sure the Sort Criteria page is open. 3) Select the sort criteria from the drop-down lists. The selected lists are populated from the selected cells. 4) Select either ascending order (A-Z, 1-9) or descending order (Z-A, 9-1). 5) Click OK and the sort is carried out on your spreadsheet.

2016-02-15 14:03:58 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda What is wrong with the =SUM() function in Calc?

The ### may simply be the column is not wide enough to display the result. Seeing the underlying formula in the formula bar is normal (the cell should show the ANSWER to the formula displayed in the formula bar). If the cell is displaying the formula instead of the result you may have your options (in Windows OPTIONS/LIBREOFFICE_CALC/VIEW, probably the same or very similar in Ubuntu) set to display formulas.

It's under FORMAT (like WordPerfect was, last time I used it, v6 for DOS, took me a while to figure out where it was when I switched to MS-Word).

Sounds like CALC thinks you're entering a number using scientific notation (if you increase the column width you'll probably see 6.00E+005). Make sure to format the cell as text (or use an apostrophe before the 6)

2016-01-05 21:44:51 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda calc pdf export incorrectly formatted if manual page break inserted

The issue seems to have been the scaling mode (Format/Page/Sheet). Setting to 1 page previewed correctly (5 pages, with breaks as envisioned) but PDF scaling was way off. Setting the scale to the number of pages envisioned (5) seemed to fix the issue. I incorrectly assumed the manual breaks would cause LibreOffice to ignore the scaling setting (especially as the print preview didn't show any problem).

Yes, Options..Always apply manual breaks is toggled on (thank you for alerting me to that in response to a prior question). Within LibreOffice sheet prints hard copies as envisioned but the PDF Export shows/prints an image a small fraction of the size of the hard copies.

L.O. 4.4.7.2 on both Manjaro Linux AND Win 8.1. Calc sheet with manual page (row) break, hard copy prints correctly but PDF (File-->Export as PDF) is scaled to a fraction of correct size (roughly 0.75 inches X 0.5 inches). Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? (As a workaround I removed page break, scaled to print on 2 pages, and played with margins until the page break was at the desired location, PDF exported file then was correct size).

edit: Tested on L.O. 4.3.3.2 (Debian stable), same problem whether converted as above or converted at command line.

I can't tell you about labels merged from a database, but in general select SYNCHRONIZE CONTENTS on the options tab of the Labels Dialog so that any font changes can be applied to all labels. Click NEW DOCUMENT which will show the page(s) of labels. You can select all (Ctrl-A) and then modify fonts; clicking SYNCHRONIZE LABELS will apply the change to all labels.

2015-12-18 22:28:08 +0200 ha posto una domanda Insert manual column break in CALC

LO 4.4.7.2 Win 8.1. Scaling to print X Pgs wide times Y Pgs high works well but I have a particular sheet where I'd like to manually modify the page breaks, but I can't seem to do that. I've tried both selecting a column and INSERT-PAGE BREAK-COLUMN as well as VIEW-PAGE BREAK PREVIEW, but neither seems to work (I don't see my manually created column breaks, I can't "grab" with a mouse to "move the blue lines" as instructed by the HELP file). Turning off the print scaling doesn't help (it prints on one page, ignoring my attempt to insert column breaks). I'm not confident enough in my ability with LO to know if this is a bug or I'm just doing something wrong, so PLEASE HELP.

Formula looks correct. If cell is formatted as Boolean Value formula will return "TRUE", formatting cell as number should fix the issue.

2015-12-14 16:12:14 +0200 ha risposto a una domanda Help! Read the Details Below Please =)

Recent versions of MS Office can open the Open Document Format files created by LibreOffice (certainly Writer & Excel, which I use, no personal experience using Powerpoint). Most documents should open without a problem but some formatting may not work as intended (and the other way around, LibreOffice can open MS Office douments, not all formatting may appear as intended, not sure if macros will work at all). You can save LibreOffice documents in MS Office (and other) formats if you need to share with others; one HINT, do your work and editing in LibreOffice and only save a final copy in MS Office Format (saving a LibreOffice formatted original for future editing).

2015-12-11 18:28:58 +0200 ha posto una domanda Calc re-arranging formulas (possibly spell checking??) PLEASE HELP

Recurrent frustrating problem (LO 3, 4, & now 5 series on Win XP & now 8.1). As an example, sheet4 (named "Totals") is used to consolidate data on sheets 1-3 (named "Tom", "Dick" & "Harry"). In (let's say) cell B1 on sheet 4 I'll try to enter a formula (hitting the = sign or clicking on the = icon to the left of the formula bar, doesn't seem to make a difference) and using the mouse to navigate to and select the cells on sheets 1-3, hitting + to go to the next cell, hitting enter when done.
The formula bar as I'm selecting the cells will read something like "=Tom.b1+Tom.b3+Dick.b1+Dick.b3+Harry.b1+Harry.b3", but when I hit enter sheet4 B1 reports "#NAME?" and the formula is rearranged to something like "Dick.b1Tom.b1+Tom.b3++Dick.b3+Harry.b1+Harry.b3" (concatenating some cell names so they don't make sense, with a double ++ in the middle of the formula). This happens maybe 10% of the time. I've learned to live with it and edit the formula when the error occurs, but I'd really like to know what the problem (and fix) is.

Additional info: Data type ("format cells") was undefined (defaults to general?) as I wasn't ready to enter data yet. Formatting all the cells (number, comma, 2 decimal places) prior to setting up the formulas MAY have fixed the problem (but as it seemingly only occurred 10% of the time I don't know if it's truly fixed). Could an inappropriate data type account for what I was seeing?

I've set up a Calc template with several password protected sheets. Is there a way to (preferably automatically) shrink/grow the column width dependent on the cell contents without turning off the password protection and resizing the columns after the data is entered?
