Hyperlink field types in Base

Hi.

Are you able to tell me when hyperlink field types will be enabled in Base?

I seems development get focused on some of the other applications.

Many thanks

Peter Jones

Found a very easy to modify Macro that allows you to open any file type from a push button on a form for all those ranters. Let me know and I will post it to keep you guys happy works like a charm.

Hi,

It is very sad that the LibreOffice team have ignored a request which has been asked for from many people (look on the web). You want people to be able to move from Office, and this is basic functionality. Base always seems to be the forgotten part of LibreOffice.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant.

Hi,

I’m not sure when hyperlinked field types will be enabled in Base. I don’t personally use the Base application very much, but if it’s an important feature for you, please make sure the devs know!

(Update) I see you’ve filed bug fdo#51203 about this issue.

Thanks!

Update: As of Jan 2013, hyperlinked field types seem to be low-priority.

Current status of fdo#51203 - Hyperlink Field Type in Base is NEW.

Resolving as BUG FILED

I have to second that. One of the most important things today are hyperlinks.
Also, Base not accepting PDFs is not acceptable.

If LibreOffice wants to be a serious Office alternative they have to do as good job with Base as with the other parts of the suite, especially Writer (which I prefer so much over MOffice Word).

Please start focusing on Base. There are also some issues regarding SQL that need attention.

Thank you,

Bodvar Bjorgvinsson

My guess is that LibreOffice won’t be supporting Hyperlink datatypes anytime before HSQLDB does; so you should direct your appeals (and rants) to them.

In the meantime it’s relatively easy to implement hyperlinks as character field types along with a push button + a small macro to open the link on a form.

OR find a Database that does support hyperlinks AND has a driver that can be used by LIbreOffice.

[Rant warning!]

IMHO (having spent the last six months porting a large & complex MS-Access to LO-Base) the developers of LO would be much more effectively employed making BASE stable, fixing the outstanding bugs and making the macro language: comprehensive, consistent and transparent. Compared with VBA there are large parts of it that are positively opaque! (That last remark does not apply to the excellent Access2Base package however)

[End of rant]

+1 for nant

As far as I remember. they only have two people working on Base, so the focus is actually on the stability of the software and many other features that are used more frequently.
