2012-08-20 06:18:27 +0200 コメント付き回答 Where does LO store keyboards/shortcuts?

Nothing I do works. None of the shortcut keys work. I don't know what to do, and apparently nobody else does, either. I'll have to find some other program, I guess.

Nope. It still does not work. Something else must have gone wrong.

Thank you and bless you! I will try this immediately!

2012-08-19 16:18:11 +0200 質問をする Where does LO store keyboards/shortcuts?

Okay, I think I know where I went wrong with the keyboard fiasco, but I need help setting it right. The reason my navigation arrows and backspace stopped working might be that when I tried to create shortcuts to accented vowels, I saw the "load" button and thought it meant that I could create a file with each letter ad load it in for each designated shortcut. So I made a "Special Character" file for these. But now I think that Libre Office thinks that's where to store keyboard configurations, but can't tap into it, so all of the shortcut keys have disappeared--including basic navigational keys like the arrows.

The question is, where is the right file location, and how do I get it back? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

This is rather urgent as I've got a deadline in the balance, on 8/21.

Okay, I think I've got a clue. When I tried to make files for letters with accent marks, to load into the keyboard, I think I changed the default on where keyboards store. But I have no idea where the right place is. Maybe I'll ask that as a separate question. Somebody might answer that one.

Maybe I saved them in the wrong place. But "Help" gave no hint of where the right place might be. Is there ANYTHING else I could have done?

I found the navigation key changes, and modified them, and saved them, and loaded them--and they still don't work. I'm beginning to think that this program was not designed for writers in the sense of people who craft works of fiction, but rather for writing small office memos and the like.

Weird--I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the program, and it still doesn't work. I notice that it also has the same modified toolbar that I had put on the last version, so I wonder just how uninstalled it actuallly was. What's going on, here? It's killing me not to work on my novel!

It's ODT. I also have lots of WPM which Open Office stopped reading, hence my exploration of Libre Office. Waiting awhile after initially opening does seem to help. Thanks!

2012-08-18 18:58:24 +0200 質問をする My Navigation Keys Quit.

I was trying to figure out how to put accent marks into the keyboard, and while I was at it adding a few shortcuts familiar to me, but when I returned to the manuscript, not only did the new shortcuts still not work, but now I don't have the arrow navigation keys, either--and I swear I didn't touch those in customizing the keyboard.

I went back to fix it, found two keyboards, "Libre Office" and "Writer", and neither of them had anything listed for the arrow keys. I tried "Reset" but they didn't come back. I tried to put the directions back in by hand, but the only direction listed under "Navigation" was "Go Right." (Political commentary refrained from out of respect for this board.) Deletions only work forward, too; the "back" key might as well be an ornament. It's not my hardware--all those keys work just fine here on this message.

What happened, and how do I fix it?

It is a text file. And yes, it is long. It is a novel. It has no images in it, just print. The jumping happens when I start to scroll, while proofreading it. Thank you for answering!

When you suggest waiting, do you mean waiting initially after opening the file, or waiting every time I scroll down?

Alternately, is there some other way to get accent marks quickly without interrupting the flow of writing? Like maybe some way of making the ` land on top of the a and the ~ land on top of the n?

2012-08-17 22:11:17 +0200 質問をする Jumpy pages

I tried to open a novel in progress in the middle, but the text kept jumping around from page to page and just wouldn't sit still long enough for me to proofread anything. I tried closing it and reopening it repeatedly, but it kept on doing it. What causes this, and how can I prevent it?

2012-08-17 19:13:51 +0200 質問をする Accent marks?

How do I modify the keyboard so that I can get an accent on vowels by hitting alt-a, alt-e, alt-i, etc.? The keyboard modifier only seems to go as far as actions, rather than reassigning characters. The help menu, when I ask about accents, seems to want me to stop mid-word, go to insert, and then thumb through a list of special characters. Since I use accents frequently in writing fiction, and fiction-writing does not flow well if you keep having to stop mid-word, this does not look to me like a solution. Archaic programs of various brands used to make it easy to modify keyboards to include frequently used characters (I also use n with ~ on top of it, too) but they don't run well on modern computers.
