Thank you for the excellent suggestion - and for the detailed example - kudos for that! I ended up accepting @Lupp's sug

2019-01-09 10:53:31 +0200 ベストアンサーマーク How to calculate an additive tax in Calc?

Consider a tax (e.g income tax) which is applied in the format:

  • 0-500€: 0%
  • 500-1000€: 12%
  • 1000-1500€: 28%

So if a person earns 500€, tax is 0, if they earn 1500, then the first 500€ have no tax, the next 500€ have 12%, and the final 500€ have 28%.

What is the best way in Calc to determine the earnings by providing the salary.

2016-05-17 12:14:54 +0200 質問をする How can you use VLOOKUP with a string operator like LEFT() ?

See this example: Vlookup example.ods

If you have a VLOOKUP for a cell (eg =VLOOKUP(A1,C6:D8,2) ) the behaviour is expected. However, if you do =VLOOKUP(LEFT(A2,3),C6:D8,2) and LEFT(A2,3) is the exact same as A1 (4.1 in the example document, VLOOKUP will yield #N/A.

How can you make VLOOKUP work with the LEFT operator?

2016-05-13 11:53:33 +0200 質問をする Why is Libreoffice opening new document with F2

I am in Calc, and my expectation would be that F2 would edit the current cell.

However, on my Ubuntu running Version: 5.1.2.2 (Build ID: 1:5.1.2~rc2-0ubuntu1~trusty0 ) F2 is opening a new document instead of the default behaviour.

The same happens in Writer - F2 is opening a new document.

How can I re-enable the default behaviour of F2 editing the cell content?

2014-08-12 11:59:16 +0200 質問に回答する How do you create a pivot table with the monthly sum of expenses?

Solution: The problem was that the Month was actually "=A1" formatted as MMMM, where column A was a complete date (YYYY-MM-dd). So while it displayed "January, Febuary...." in the sheet, the pivot table was using the underlying complete date.

By changing the month date to =Month(A1) one can get the expected result.

Consider the following data:
|January|300€|
|January|100€|
|Febuary|10€|
|Febuary|5€|
|March|1000€|

The key here is that the month column is a DATE (2014-01-01, 2014-01-03) formatted as MMMM! How does one create a pivot table to display the monthly sum?

|January|400€|
|Febuary|15€|
|March|1000€|

Nice hack. Has the advantage of keeping things within Calc. I have to try the performance on a 25k entry table! :)

Yeah, thanks for that Regina. Importing into a DBMS will allow for much more flexibility. If I don't find any other answer within Calc I might go down that route.

2014-05-27 19:34:47 +0200 質問をする Pivot table for distinct count?

Consider the following table in Calc (The table has 25,000 entries):

|Vehicle|Colour|
|Car | Red |
|Car | Red |
|Car | Blue |
|Car | Green |
|Boat | Red |
|Boat | White |

I want to count how many distinct colours there are for each vehicle:
|Vehicle|Colour count|
| Car | 3 |
| Boat | 2 |

What is the best way to achieve this?

I've tried a pivot table with:
Row fields: Car, Colour
Data fields: Colour(count)

This yields: |Car | Red | 2|
|Car | Blue | 1|
|Car | Green | 1|
|Boat | Red | 1|
|Boat | White | 1|

Do you have any hint on how to transform this into what I need?

2012-12-10 18:32:23 +0200 質問をする How can I use a checkbox that alters a field value in Writer?

I'm trying to create a quotation template in Writer. The idea is loosely the following:

  1. Have a checkbox for each optional item
  2. Have the price of the corresponding item toggle between 0 and x (the item's price) depending on the checkbox being selected or not
  3. Ideally update the total price with the sum of all the fields

The client would receive a PDF version of the file and be able to select the optional items he wants.

Is this possible? How can I create the code:

if(checkbox is enabled){field=1234}else{field=0}
