Which versions of Java & JVM are supported?

Am I overlooking the documentation on what versions of Java are supported along with the JVM? The wiki page I found only talks about Java 6 and 7 and the only other reference I found in this forum was for AdoptOpenJDK. If you download AdobeOpenJDK you have to specify the version of Java and JVM so there are 4 different combos so it is not all obvious what to use.

We have purged Oracle JRE 8 from our environment since it cannot be used without commercial licenses since we only needed applet support historically. There is interest in adopting LibreOffice, but with Java as a required technology we need to be able to maintain the version that is recommended and supported by LibreOffice so we don’t run into issues where some feature doesn’t work quite right because we have some other version of Java.

We do have one application that needs Java so far and we used the JDK 11 Releases on the Windows platform since that was the version the developer said they used and supported.

Any current version is expected to work with current LO. But what do you mean by “but with Java as a required technology”? Do you mean that you actually know that you need that functions in LO that actually require JRE? Or do you have some requirement in third-party components like extensions which do? (Or maybe your home-made.) My question is because sometimes people suppose that JRE is hard requirement, when in fact they don’t need it for what they want to do with LO.

Thanks.

I have to work from the assumption the employee will use some feature that will require it. Otherwise it will create all sorts of drama in the future that could have been prevented by giving them Java in the beginning. :sunglasses:

The only thing in LO that I can think of that requires JAVA is the Database portion BASE and I think they are working on eliminating that requirement.
