Cannot type text in calc

I am not able to type text in LibreOffice calc. Text shows up in the box at the top but not in the ledger line.
I can type numbers in the ledger lines. It was working for awhile with the text, but suddenly stopped. I must have touched something, and I have read a lot of help files and have spent a lot of time trying to figure it out by myself. I even copied the spreadsheet to a new one. Entering text worked for a while, then stopped again. I have changed keyboards, too, but still have the problem. Windows 10; LibreOffice 5.2.2.2; ODF Spreadsheet

Thank you,

Please select a cell and press Ctrl + 1 (Format Cell). Check the contents of the all tabs. May be you set the font color white? Or horizontal alignment of the text in the cell is not a standard?

I would try what JohnSUN suggested.

If that doesn’t work, try checking your conditional formatting settings:
format > conditional formatting > condition.

It could be that a conditional formatting setting is causing your text to turn white, and thus rendering it “invisible” against the white background. Changing the background colour behind the text to black will verify this.

If conditional formatting is the culprit, changing the font colour won’t work as the conditional formatting settings will override the manual font colour changes you have made.

Specifically confusing errors of any kind are sometimes due to user profile corrupion (caused by a system breakdown e.g.).
See this wiki page - and be careful if there are templates and/or macros to preserve.
