I though by this update the problem will be fixed. The fact the using a Mac and printing with letter size paper only prints in landscape mode. Who can we direct this bug to so that it would be fixed. There are a lot of Mac users in the US which used letter vs A4 paper size. Also The work around does not work for calc any more.
The problem is solved in 5.4.4 and 6.0
no it isnʻt. I have 5.4.4 and now itʻs crashing when I go to print.

Just installed LO v. 5.3.7.2 on OS X v. 10.13.1. Xerox printer driver is v. 4.8.0, I think. Always prints in landscape when letter size is chosen. It will print portrait if 8.49 x 10.99 is chosen for size.
This does not answer the question, which is about the status of the bug. The OP presumably knows about the workaround.
