Libreoffice Vanilla Mac

Hi all,

I would like some help on LO Vanilla. Unfortunately I’ve found a lack of specific documentation on the web. I would like to know if, and how much, better it is integrated with MacOsx. Also, I would like to know if I buy a copy today, will I be able to constantly upgrade it or not, or up to a certain time?

The main problem is that LO free version is not good enough to be used alone on MacOsx. 3d transition on Impress are broken, Impress per se it’s not the best in terms of converting pptx files. Also lots of bugs on Calc (i.e. when dragging the fields to create a Pivot table) and so on.

Thank you

This is my personal opinion, but the short answer is “no”, LOVanilla from the AppStore is not more functional than the standard LO download made available via TDF. In fact, it is less functional, one of the main reasons being that any and all functionality that makes Java instantiation calls (and there is still quite a lot within LO) is banned from apps that are made available via the AppStore due to Apple’s policies. This means that lots of Java based extensions to LO will not work, and additionally, major parts of the database module will also fail to work. LOVanilla is not distributed by TDF, but via a private software entity Collabora (one of the members of the Board of TDF). In the future, this is going to change, and LOVanilla will be distributed by a different entity, and the cost of LOVanilla will be increased significantly in a bid to be able to finance development work to fix bugs in the macOS version). From what I have been told, updates will nonetheless be free thereafter.
