2015-11-16 16:47:53 +0100 koos een beste antwoord Smooth Scroll does not appear to have any effect in Linux

I am using LO in Linux Mint 15, Cinnamon 1.8, 32 bit. Nvidia 9600GT - Propriety Driver 310.

In LO Writer with Hardware Acceleration selected on or off, Smooth Scrolling has no effect. I have some very long docs to read and being able to scroll smoothly makes life less tiresome, autoscroll would be nice too, but in this question I am asking why Smooth Scroll has no affect (on my system) - even after a reboot.

2015-03-05 17:48:13 +0100 beantwoorde een vraag How to find a word or phrase in libre office?

I can help in respect of case 1 only. Open the Document in question. Press Ctrl+F and enter the search phrase or word and then click Find All. You will see the occurances all highlighted.

I know of no way to search documents which have not been opened from within LibreOffice.

I have not seen any method which allows the persona to extend to the sidebar (footers being a recent addition). It is however, something I would like to see.

2014-12-27 14:27:28 +0100 stelde een vraag Search and replace issue

I am using Libre Office 4.4 RC1 (but this relates I believe to all 4 series releases as it this does happen in the 3 series) Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon - tested on several machines.

I have recorded a macro which contains (amongst many small steps and search and replace routines) a simple search and replace - search for $ and replacing with z2z . I have Regular Expressions selected all other selections left blank

On small documents this works absolutely fine. But on anything resembling a novel the whole process takes forever and will actually grind writer to a halt. The controls will become unsreposive and a Force Quit is required.

I used to use this extensivley on previous releases (3 series) as part of a series of automated changes to format RTF files. I read the bug reports and some look like they should have attended to this problem, but in the latest RC it still exists.

Just to rub salt in the wound, I had occasion to do the same routine in the Latest OpenOffice, and it still works there just fine.

Is a new bug report required?

2014-12-17 17:15:20 +0100 beantwoorde een vraag How to set up LibOffice to load a file when computer starts

I suggest that you add to Startup Programs a link to the file you want opened. Due to the Application Links created by LibreOffice, it should open the prerequisite program before loading the file.

Good Luck

2014-05-15 18:42:34 +0100 stelde een vraag Website offers .rpm in Chrome instead of .deb

I am a Linux Mint 16 user. When using Firefox if I go to download an update from the LO website, the site correctly identifies that I should take the .deb package.

However, if I visit the same page in Google Chrome it offers .rpm and it is difficult to change and identify the correct package from the link provided.

I cannot work out why Chrome presents itself to the web pages differently to Firefox, it is misrepresenting the OS I have. Is there an about:config type of setting in chrome I can tweak to change this?

Both Firefox and Chrome are the latest versions.

It would be a good idea to identify what operating system and version of Libreoffice you are using. When does it freeze? Is it a particular type of document? etc, all this can help find the issue.

2014-04-07 20:02:00 +0100 koos een beste antwoord Find & Replace including a Paragraph Mark

I write macro's in Word to refine OCR'd documents. a frequently used one is

Find: ", ^p" and Replace: ", " to join sentences which were split with the 1st half ending in a comma and space.

Now I have converted to Linux 100% (hooray!!!) and LibreOffice (hooray!!!!) I am finding it very difficult to easily reproduce the same work-flow. I am no Regex aficionado but I have researched the "common Regular Expressions" wiki page plus several other forums etc, and find no really simple answer - seems a feature request is in order.

But before that assuming I missed something, do any of you have a really simple answer to this? I frequently want to include a Para mark in my search and/or replace. - I use \n in the Replace bit. If I have to use a "U+code" how exactly is this typed in?

Many thanks Dan

What format are you saving the document in at work? Does it only contain text? If not what else does it contain? Can you provide an example for us to see? It would also help if you could provide the versions of LO you are using and the PC system software etc.

2014-02-20 17:10:55 +0100 beantwoorde een vraag How do I save an object as a Jpeg in Draw?

You haven't identified which operating system you are using. I am a Linux Mint cinnamon 32bit LO4.2.1RC user. I found no method of exporting objects directly from Draw as .jpg.

However, I did notice that once the object was complete I could select it, copy it and paste it straight into Gimp without creating a blank canvas. This I could export succesfully as a .jpg.

Gimp is avail in windows too and is free.

I suspect you may have an enhancement to request as I am sure many people would find a direct method useful. If a direct method exists, I am sure someone will be along shortly to explain.

If you have made a style set then one method I believe is to load the document, press F11 to show Styles and Formatting, then to global change your document, click the top right button to "Load Styles" and select the style sheet you have created..

Hope this helps

2014-02-17 15:17:18 +0100 beantwoorde een vraag How can I open a file with extension fb2?

You could do this by downloading the excellent and free Calibre which can be found here

This can be used to convert the fb2 to RTF which Linbre Office will load. The following is a quote from the manual:

"calibre supports the conversion of many input formats to many output formats. It can convert every input format in the following list, to every output format.

Hope this is useful

2014-02-13 13:27:16 +0100 beantwoorde een vraag I was working on a document and it added thousands of blank pages

I would Open the document go to the last line of the text you want. Press Ctrl+Shift+Home all at once to select the lines from that point back to the beginning of the document. Press Ctrl+C to copy the text.

Now start a new document, Press Ctrl+V to paste. Save with a new name. Close both files. Open the new file to ensure it is as you want it.

2014-01-31 21:27:38 +0100 beantwoorde een vraag Does Writer v4.2 produce larger file sizes? If you think the file size jump you experience is bad, try taking a small RTF document, make no changes and just save it again. Mine can jump by 10x. Unfortunately I am stuck with this format. But I have no doubt that this matter will be addressed eventually.
