My LO version is 4.2.8.2 Why do I have LO3 files in .config/libreoffice?

I use Ubuntu 14.04.

I am getting crashes. I want to save & check my User Profile [as per LO advice].

I find I have LO3 files in .config/libreoffice.

Is it safe [if not wise] to delete the ‘3’ directory?

How do I do that safely since Synaptic has NO MENTION AT ALL of “libreoffice 3”?

Hi nic

These are some of the reasons why you have fossil remains in your computer:-

  1. LO does not remove Profile config entries when the program is removed.
  2. The lo3 user profile is at ~/.config/libreoffice/3
  3. The lo4 user profile is at ~/.config/libreoffice/4
  4. The lo5 user profile is at ~/.config/libreoffice/4
    (not a typo)
  5. If LO3 was re-installed, it would attempt to re-use the user profile on startup.
  6. When LO3 starts up, if the lo3 user profile is missing, it re-creates it from default values.
  7. If LO4 or LO5 is installed, it will attempt to upgrade any lo3 user Profile.
  8. When LO4 or LO5 starts up, if the lo4 user profile is missing, it re-creates it from default values.
  9. Profile corruption is extremely common. The character of subsequent problems is “strange”, “odd”, etc., including difficulties in starting up.

Rename your profile directory rather than removing it. That will allow you to reverse or recover former setup items (archeological digs).

If this helps then please tick the answer (:heavy_check_mark:)

Hallo

I would prefer to rename the .config/libreoffice/3 to something like 3__back - because you may later wish to look for [whatever you need] in this configuration.

the same with …4 if it already exsists

now, try to run Libreoffice

Thank you, that’s most helpful with managing the potential crash solution.

but, since this Q might be accessed by others puzzled by having a LO3 directory despite having migrated to LO4 …
does anyone know why the LO directory is there?

[to inform a choice as to whether to delete it since its taking up 2.5MB of disk space]

"does anyone know why the LO directory is there?"
