I am working in LibreOffice writer, Windows 7, English, formatting a 13-page short story which must be submitted in .doc format. I have successfully formatted “first page” and “default” headers, but when I save the document, all headers are gone when I reopen it. This is happening repeatedly.
I made a test in LibO4.2.4.2 / XP/SP3. Writer
Created a document using my default template, which has in the
- header without an entry but header is switched on
- footer has left side the field “filename” and right side the fields “page number” / “page count”
Test 1
I entered additionally a short text in the header and in the footer
I saved
FIRST in odt format
SECOND the same file in doc format
Result when opening the doc-file in WordViewer (don’t have MS Office anymore)
I saw that the entered text in the header and footer and also the field generated text (filename, page number page count)
Test2
All the same but I saved directly in doc-format (no saving first in odt)
Result when opening in doc-file in WordViewer I saw only the additionally entered text, page number, page count
I repeated Test2 several times with consistent results. (Its a bug which needs to be reported.)
Questions:
- Which LibO version and OS are you using?
- Did you save first in odt format and only thereafter in doc?
- Do you use manually entered text in your header or do you use fields?
- Do you need doc-format because other side needs to edit or can you use pdf-format?
