Step-by-step instructions on installing libreoffce 3.5 on Ubuntu 12

I’m having trouble with installing Libreoffice 3.5 on Ubuntu 12.

I unistalled LO not knowing what I was doing and I now I’m stuck on how to fix it.

I’ve installed LO by invoking the “sudo apt-get install libreoffice-common” in the terminal. When I look in the Dash and type “libreoffice” all I get is the LO icon for the launcher, but there are no LO apps that can be used.

How do I install the individual apps? There’s nothing in the LO launcher that allows this.

Is this help? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibreOffice

I assume that when you uninstalled libreoffice it removed the meta package ubuntu-desktop.

Try reinstalling it. It should install all that is normally included in ubuntu, including LO but is not presently installed.

On ubuntu 12.04 (and probably all current versions of ubuntu), the ‘libreoffice’ metapackage will install all components of libreoffice. The ‘libreoffice-common’ package only installs some of the components.

To install the full program:

apt-get install libreoffice

For more information on this package, use apt-cache like this:

apt-cache show libreoffice
