I generated an Libreoffice Base report with the report builder. As I generate the report I notized that some fields are too big to fit into the field. So it is not possible to read the whole content.
Okay - I could enlarge the textbox to prevent this. But most of the textboxes are small and I don’t want them to waste paper space.
Question: Is it possible to enlargen the textbox when needed automatically?

you couldn’t set the automatic height for a field in Report-Builder. Feature-request for this is open since a long time. But you could set this height after the report has been created. You could also use a macro for this. It is explained in German Base-Handbuch: http://de.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/ - scroll a little bit down, special to chapter 09 - Makros.
And now in German: Textboxen im Report-Builder haben immer eine feste Größe. Dazu existiert seit Jahren eine Anfrage im Bugtracker, nur tut sich dort leider nichts. Die Größe kann allerdings nach dem Erstellen des Berichtes entweder per Hand oder mit einem Makro korrigiert werden. Das Makro zum Starten eines Berichtes aus einem Formular heraus, wobei der Bericht automatisch in der Höhe ausgerichtet, gedruckt und anschließend wieder geschlossen wird, steht im Base-Handbuch Version 5.1 auf S. 465 f.
