Picture placement issues

I did a search and found nothing helpful related to this issue. What happens is I am cranking out documents and placing pictures in the margins. They mostly go where I place them and if not I just drag and drop them to their correct location. That appears to be the minor bug.

The major issue is when the document goes beyond a single page the pictures will almost certainly refuse to allow themselves to place correctly. I pick a specific location and then they jump somewhere else- almost always higher or off the(2nd or greater) page. Even if I drag and drop them to a correct location they immediately insist on jumping somewhere higher- sometimes smack-dab on top of previously inserted pictures. I have tried placing them in other locations, undoing, dragging/dropping… you name it. Nothing is working and I hope that this can be corrected with the next update.

I also want to clarify the situation by posting that although picture placement is buggy on single pages when on the second(or greater) pages that is where the complete meltdown occurs- but yet pictures still can(buggily) be placed on the first page of that same document.

Thank you for that information and I will immediately go and play around with it and see how well it works. However, I do think that the developers should look for ways to simplify the process so it doesn’t require workarounds. Have a good weekend everybody!

Yes, I am having similar problems. The system appears to be erratic - sometimes moving the anchor works, sometimes not. And the most annoying thing is, you can get one image in situ, move on, then go back and find the darned thing has moved. LibreOffice is great, I use it all the time, but the image feature lets it down dramatically.

THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ANNOYING!!!I CAN’T BELIEVE IN 2020 THERE IS STILL NOT A BETTER SOLUTION. THE IMAGES JUST DO WHATEVER THEY WANT WITH NO ATTENTION TO THE PAGE OR PARAGRAPH AND JUST DUMP THEMSELVES OFF THE PAGE AND INTO RANDOM AREAS LIKE THE MARGINS. I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. THIS HAS BEEN A F’N NIGHTMARE DOCUMENT. WHAT THE F’N HELL.

Take a look to this thread in the Mailing List:

I’ve also struggled with this.

The only advice I can offer is to NOT move the picture itself, but move its anchor. After you have moved the anchor symbol, then you can move the picture itself. Its a two step operation.

Try right-clicking on the picture, Anchor, choose ‘To paragraph’. Worked for me.

Right-click (control-click if Mac) the picture, then select ‘anchor’ → ‘to page’. After doing this you can drag the picture to wherever you want it and it will remain there.

THANK YOU !! This is the only thing that resolved the problem for me.

After pasting a picture, I typically work in the following order
1 - consider the anchor type I need
2 - adjust the wrapping I need
3 - move picture by moving the anchor (advice by @Geekasaurus)

This also will help you to understand what is going on if the picture does not stay where you want it and take countermeasures.
