Tabbed documents in the main program window

After many years waiting for StarOffice, OpenOffice and Libreoffice to reach the level of compatibility that I need, I have started another trial run.
What I will miss is the row of tabs across the top of the program window for each open document. Having to pull down a menu and then carefully select the document I want to switch to is unnecessarily slow. It is important for me at any time to be able to glance up and see which documents are open and then be able to switch to another one with one easy click. These tabs are used in Chrome and Firefox – one for each open web page. Imagine having to first open a menu to find a web page that you want to switch back to in a long dropdown list (there could be many pages). The Foxit pdf reader also uses document tabs.

This feature is not standard in MSOffice 10 but I have an add-on which does it perfectly. See attached image. - Oh dear - I don’t qualify to add an image :frowning:

Is the feature already there but I have not found the setting? Is the feature a possibility?

It is not possible, sorry. See here:

Bug 37134 - Tabbed UI: Document-per-tab (similar to Firefox, Opera, gedit)

and other issues linked there.

Thanks. I don’t understand what I see in your reference but it seems that there are only requests for the feature - I don’t see where the NOT possible reason is.
Great Pity - back to MS I’m sadly afraid.

@RGB-es, question: why is the MDI feature “not possible”? No reason is given for it being impossible in Bug 37134.

Other software native to various OS’s (Win/Linux) have MDI as a standard feature. Both free and commercial “competitors” to LO have MDI (SoftMaker and Onlyoffice, for example). I see no reason why LO should not provide the same productivity enhancement. Please explain.

Thanks.
