Anti spam measures? [closed]
Given the flood of spam recently, is there any possibility of adding something like http://www.stopforumspam.com/ IP checks to try and reduce the possibility of registrations/logins from known dodgy IP addresses?
Update: Yet again we are getting a number of spam messages interrupting the service.

Looks like spam is still a problem - does anyone know if any new preventive measures have been put in place? (I think I know the answer!)
let's delete all spam posts..
Well, good luck with that. I've done over a hundred today, but they come in faster than can be handled by one person. Seems there have been over 800 today - the spamming posters need to be deleted by an admin. I'd guess this has been found to be an open site and the word is spreading among the black hats :-)
i did over 100 as well, they're only slightly faster than 1 person can delete.. maybe the two of us can beat them at the same time :)
Regrettably real life [TM] got in the way of things; I'll chip away again a bit until admins can delete the users and posts en masse. I'm sent a message to let them know.
It starts again! Suggestion: the first posting of any new user must be approved before publishing.
@gabix Indeed, I've been a forum admin for years (now retired) and first post moderation is the only way to stop spammers. Question is, is it out there someone caring about this platform beyond the simple "someone told me the server does not respond, let's restart it"? Because it seems that not.
There were perhaps 10 different new accounts from which the spam was posted, some of these accounts had posted more than 320 spam posts alone. ( I deleted over 500 of these spam posts this morning ).
How about a maximum number of questions per user per day?
First post moderation was tried about two years ago. That is when I first signed up to post a question. After waiting weeks for the post to show, and trying to log in, I gave up. Months later I came back to see my question was finally posted and buried. It never was answered except by myself. I saw numerous other posts in a similar situation. The idea of somehow limiting posts in a specific time frame may be a direction. Couldn't keep up with deleting those posts last night.
The first post mod concept works OK on the AOO forum - probably needs a number of mods so there is the likelihood of one being available in a reasonable period of time from a post being submitted.
Just went through another 100 or so posts. Same source. Need something.
