Which download option to choose?

Good morning.

Forgive an old man’s dumb question, but I’m confused by the download options in the drop-down box:

https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/?type=win-x86&lang=en-US&version=5.3.4

I’m running Windows 7 x64.

Do I want the download for Windows x86, or for Windows 86_x64? (And what, exactly, is Windows 86?)

Thanks!

You want Windows 86-x64 for a 64 bit Windows version.

x86 is a family of backward-compatible instruction set architectures based on the Intel 8086 CPU and its Intel 8088 variant. The 8086 was introduced in 1978 as a fully 16-bit extension of Intel’s 8-bit-based 8080 microprocessor, with memory segmentation as a solution for addressing more memory than can be covered by a plain 16-bit address. Good day @BywaterNYC,

You want the download for Windows x86_64

x86-64 means the 64-bit version of the x86 instruction set.

Excellent. Thanks for your help!
