Im trying to start libre writer and it opens fine. Then I can not do anything more. It just hangs. Nothing to do but to kill it with the taskmanager.
Anything I can do to fix this…

Having LO Writer hang right after opening sounds like a bad bug to me! Our Bug Submission Assistant is temporarily out of order, so please report a bug directly in bugzilla, and post a link to the bug in a comment here.
Please include the specific steps you take to run LO and what (if anything) triggers Writer to become unresponsive.
