My new HP laptop has Windows 8 and free trial software for Microsoft. Can I delete all reference to Microsoft safely and just use Libre?
Hi qubit, Thanks for your reply. I was about to purchase a new Microsoft Office package compatible for my new HP laptop with Windows 8. I only now use it general home use.
Having read one or two reviews on the new packages on offer, people were recommending Libre as a good alternative.
The intention is to keep Windows 8 but use Libre 4.0 to replace Microsoft Office. I am reluctant to delete ALL references as I am not sure if there are other links not obvious to the uninitiated.

If you’d like to remove all Microsoft software from your laptop (Windows 8, MS-Office, etc…) and just go with Libre software, then that’s a bit out of the scope of this site, and we’d probably want to send you over to a GNU/Linux distribution like Ubuntu or Debian. Don’t worry, there are lot of contributors over there who are just as friendly as we are 
If you’re looking to replace MS-Office on your computer with LibreOffice, then that’s definitely on-topic for this website! You’ve probably found the download site, and can grab the latest build and localization for your language there (currently LibreOffice 4.0).
How are you planning to use LibreOffice? Do you need to write papers, work on spreadsheets, or create presentations? There’s documentation about how to use these components available online. The Documentation Team is hard at work on 4.0-specific documentation updates right now, but feel free to use the existing user guides (nearly all of the information is the same).
