When trying to download i am asked for a file association. Not knowing much about these things how do i proceed. Have gone into control panel and need to choose a file type to associate with.

OP also hasn’t specified which file was downloaded (resulting name), neither OS and browser. There’s a bug, where MSIs are downloaded as MAN files (from some of our mirrors).
If that’s the case, you may use our download archive.
Just a thought … try to download the file to your disk by Right-clicking on the download link and choose “Save Link As…”
Then go to your download location, select the download file, Right-click and choose “Open With…”
Then choose the application to open your file with ( and set it as default ).
