Crop Pictures in Writer

Hey Guys,

I am currently writing a manual and need to insert screenshots. Can I somehow crop the pictures directly in Writer without opening an extra programm?

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi, this can be done natively, see the answer by hatalar205. Within Writer cropping isn’t the most elegant thing as you have to specify distance from each side rather than dragging. Within Draw it works fine.

It should work fine for bitmaps etc.I found it didn’t work within Writer for drawings copied from draw - but you can just do them in draw, or paste them as a bitmap.

(copy of Hatalar’s answer:) *Right click the picture. From the menu choose Picture. And you will see Crop tab there.

Would be great if you could change your accepted answer as the one you’ve accepted is incorrect.

Yes, you can. Right click the picture. From the menu choose Picture. And you will see Crop tab there.

I used hatalar205 recommendation it works perfectly
right click => picture => crop tab
Sorry for the answer but I wanted to upvote but couldn’t because I’m new

You may find that the Crop function in LibreOffice is slightly disappointing, compared to competing productivity suites. I think it is the only function that has ever made me feel a bit embarrased when comparing it to Word…

When writing manuals I usually crop in a screenshot program and then insert into Writer. Shutter is a good one for Linux and Greenshot for Windows. But lately I have used ScreenPresso on Windows. It is not open source, but make very nice screen shots.

Well I’ve found it no too. You are right. Thanks for the tips. I will use an external program then.

Hi, this gives the wrong impression - LibreOffice can crop - see Hatalar205 recommendation below.

LibreOffice can crop! picture => right click => crop. This answer should be updated or removed.

This is the current bug in LibreOffice:
